Thea Osborne hopes to spend a quiet Christmas house sitting for the Shepherds in the picturesque village of Stanton. Walks in the local countryside with the dogs and perhaps a meal in the pub are all the excitement she wants.

When her arrival at the village coincides with the funeral of local businessman Douglas Callendar, found electrocuted in his bath, Thea's interest is stirred but the onset of flu looks to prevent any sleuthing. However, when two people show up brutally murdered the following afternoon, even when battling a fever Thea finds herself thrust into the middle of yet another Police investigation.

The author did a great job of making me feel like I had the flu along with the main character—all muzzy-headed and droopy. But I don't like feeling like I have the flu.

I have not read anything by this author before but enjoy a good cozy mystery. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this was not one. The mystery in this story took a back seat to the main character's constant whining of "I've got flu!" More time is spent on her flu, her lack of anyone to help her, her trials and tribulations of dog sitting, etc., etc., than the murders/possible murders. All was tied up neatly (and rather quickly) in the end. Perhaps this is a book that might be better read than listened to, as you could skim over some of the incessant whining. I listened to the entire thing because I hate to leave books unfinished but, by the end, I didn't particularly even care "whodunnit".

Tedious

The author rambles and makes the main character into a brainless ninny. Most of the book consists of irrelevant ramblings that makes the reader constantly wonder if there will ever be a point to the story. The only likable characters are the animals and the man next door, who only has a brief appearance. This book should have been a two page magazine story.
