Publisher's summary

On the day she and her mother escaped her cruel father, Emma Washington vowed to never fall in love.

Now, Emma is a back-to-school PhD student with bigger and better things to worry about. That is, until one night, exhausted, slightly tipsy, and on her way home from a party, the glaring white light of a car comes crashing toward her, changing her life forever. Instead of waking up in a 21st-century hospital, she finds herself waking up in the backwaters of London, Victorian England, 1881....

Trapped in a time where everything she once knew is considered witchcraft, Emma discovers that Victorian London is a harsh world for a woman without wealth or status. She faces yet another life-changing twist when she learns her only chance of survival depends on the very thing she has tried to avoid her whole life - marriage. As if that isn’t bad enough, she must betroth herself to none other than the most powerful duke in all of England, the notorious and feared Lord William Blackwell.

But...what begins as a fight for her life might just become a chance to find true love.

Trapped in Time is the first book in the Time Travel Romance series and can be listened to as a stand-alone novel. It follows Isabella, a Victorian lady from one of England's finest houses, who finds herself waking up in the streets of Philly in the 21st century. How is all of this connected? We shall see....

Fun story, good narration

I actually enjoyed how this story played out. It took me a bit to understand the author's voice. Emma ended up in the past and wanted to do whatever it took to make it home. She was very conscious of the butterfly effect so she used her modern knowledge sparingly. John was such a sweet man but knew his heart quickly. The ending was interesting. This was an audiobook, and Virginia Ferguson did a wonderful job keeping my attention and giving life to Emma, John, and those around them.

I received a copy of the audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Started good, ended alright, middle was frustrating.

The beginning of the story was intriguing. Honestly, this book is only around five hours long and not a bad short commitment to a story, but also had some frustrations. I liked the story line of how the main character became friends with Lilly the prostitute, but when things became tough for the character, she put herself into poverty and put poor Lilly back into prostitution again without another thought about Lilly’s struggles above her own. The main character had no regard for poor Lilly’s life being affected by her choices and acted selfishly, which was not considered as gravely as you would think a heroin of a story should act in those circumstances. The ending was nice, but poor Lilly was the reason everything worked out and it seemed through the story that Lilly was just a means to an end to help make the main character happy. All in all, it was a short book that was easy to listen to, but the story line was a let down. Lilly should have had a happy ending instead of being used and then only lucky enough to be a servant/ladies maid in the end.

Entertaining and intriguing...

It's an intriguing introduction to a series, though it can also be listened to as a standalone...
Emma, a pharmacy worker and a PhD student from modern day Philadelphia, wakes up in Victorian London after a car hits her in the middle of the road... That's an intriguing starting point for a romance; can Emma survive in a society where women have virtually no rights and where the only way for her to carry out research into time travel is to get married to someone rich and titled...? Will she be able to pretend to be a lady of society when the social norms are so different from those she was used to in the 21st century America? And to what extent can she use her knowledge of chemistry and the future without causing the butterfly effect?... These are the questions that we ask, following Emma in her plight to discover the way home... and the way to her own heart...
The main characters - Emma, John and Lilly - are likeable and nicely written; there are also some villains in the story, whom we dislike right from the start. And although I don't think that all the situations and reactions are quite psychologically logical, generally the tale flows smoothly and keeps you want to go on.

Narration by Ms Ferguson is very well done; the voices match the characters, both male and female, and the pace of her reading is just about right.

Great Entertainment!

You know that creepy feeling you get when something really strange and out of the ordinary happens, well, this is what I felt at the end of this story.
This is an amazing love story between Emma and John.
The bad guy is aptly named William Blackwell (smile) and his hands aren't too clean.
I loved the way Lily takes care of Emma and makes sure she learns how to safely survive in 1881, Victorian England.
This story was really well written. It kept me going, eager to find out what was going to happen next and I loved the interplay between the characters, loving some of them more than others.
The narration was nicely done with interesting and well matched voices helping to make this an enjoyable audio experience.
I am happy to recommend this story and the audiobook.
My voluntary and unbiased review is recorded above.

Very dreamy

I enjoyed listening to the Audible version of this book. I was gifted a copy from the author, Denise Daye. A very romantic tale. Very dreamy. I felt as if I traveled back in time with Emma. In the beginning I was wondering if I could really relate considering Emma’s work as a pharmacy tech as I’m usually on the other side of the counter from them. However, Ms Daye captured my imagination and made it easy for me to envision. I fell in love with the characters even the evil one whom I loved to hate. All in all, I find this book very easy to recommend.

Great time travel story

it took a little getting used to the narrator but once you get into it, I thought she did a good job. the story was great and I loved the ending. however, I didn't feel that the villain was so bad and actually would love to hear a spin-off story of him and becoming a changed man and found his true love.

Story: Meh Narrator: Hard Pass

This story could have been so much better if the narrator didn't sound like she had marbles in her mouth. The storyline was ok.

It was ok

The story has a fun premise but it wasn’t executed very well. The narrator was too slow so I had to speed it up to make it sound better: it definitely worked! But still, it was missing something. I wanted to like this one but I can’t help but compare all these time traveling historical romances to “A Knight in Shining Armor “ by Jude Deveraux. That book has ruined all others for me! And no one has come close to that book for me ….. Well, wait .. there is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. 😊 Ok .. besides her, no one has come close to A Knight in Shining Armor.
Anyway .. Even though this book and the second book are supposedly stand-alone stories, the 2nd book got better reviews. I’ll give the next one a chance and see if it’s better.

Time Travel my favorite!

Not sure why Amazon best sellers aren’t like this one. Break from the stressful day and having a time. Travel, twisted love life is an amazing concept. The writer job, and it was well written and kept my attention throughout. Please do more like this. If you have one, please send it to me I will read it.

Loved it

Loved every second of it. It was a really nice love story. With just one steamy love scene. I wish there was a series of them. The narrator was quite good. If you like time travel romances then I definitely recommend it.

Just not for me

I appreciate the author spent time writing a novel, but it was pretty underwhelming. It had scope to be more interesting, to be sure, and I love the genre.

Good plot and interesting story

I found the overall plot and characters enjoyable. An interesting take on a historical romance with a time travel aspect. It was also nice to see the slums as well as the aristocracy, made the story feel balanced and interesting as havent read a story like that before. However, I didn't enjoy the writing itself (redundant and needed editing for example "self esteem of herself" and a stated repetition of the time period rather than feeling immersed in the past through descriptions). Narration didn't grab me. Accents attempted but not carried through and unconvincing. Overall, not bad, but I wanted it to be better.
