Publisher's Summary

What are the odds? Statistics tell us that African-American males who grow up in a single-parent household are nine times more likely to drop out of high school and 20 times more likely to end up in prison than any other demographic. But what would it take for one young man not only to rise above those statistics but also become a Navy SEAL, actor, entrepreneur, writer, and successful husband and father?

In Transformed, Remi Adeleke takes you back to stories from his childhood, from living as Nigerian royalty to losing his father early in life and being financially stripped of everything by the Nigerian government. He delves into being raised by a single mother in the Bronx and doesn’t shy away from his illegal activities as a young man that threatened to derail his future. At every turn, including throughout his naval career, Adeleke found a way to overcome the odds, even when it didn’t make sense. His is an inspiring story of true personal transformation.

Decent

Overall good book about how the military provides structure and second chances. This story is that of pretty much most service men and women. Good but nothing truly groundbreaking.

Amazing story that has to be heard in every hood.

I couldn't help but thinking about the same things that Remi thought to himself as young boy in my past because the inner city (no matter how hard parents can try) finds a way to put temptation in your face with a feeling of invincibility to give you that push to do nefarious things. The amazing story of HOW he became a Frogman is incredible in its own light, but one thing his book most excellently unpacks the challenges of being a minority in the inner city and the structural/systemic challenges that limit the potential of young men/women from our streets. If you listen closely to the stories between the story, you realize that Remi's life is truly a miracle because the world back then (and arguably today) was not wired to produce or even magnify the outcome that Remi became today. But it's also not to say that this miracle can't become a reality for more young men who are where Remi was as a teenager. I truly hope this book reaches many more young men and women the same way that Tiana Reyes thankfully reached Remi for the Navy on that faithful day that he walked into 2488 Grand Concourse. Thank you for writing this Remi, may God continue to illuminate your life so more people can see your life as a possibility for them too.

Phenomenal poignant and well performed

this book was awesome. I thought he did an excellent job of capturing the essence of each stage of his life without the book Emerson. The narration was very good and as with any good performance did you distract from the book but added to the book.

I would highly recommend this book and put it on par Adam Brown story Fearless.

Well done

REAL TALK - BLESSING FROM GOD!

Remi your book is a blessing! In 2010 Remi held prayer services during deployment. He did not mention that this deployment had some really difficult moments, and that the war also had changed. This book talks about Remi as a pastor, his childhood to teen his hustle...his life in the military and how he ended up joinig the elite Navy SEALs after a being told he would fail. He speaks about his journey to God and it's a long journey. Remi talks about his struggles in his life, financial goals, family, love of women, and how and when he decided to make changes. Remi your a blessing from God thank you for sharing your journey! Specifically thank you for praying with me in 2010 in Iraq and in San Diego! Blessing to you, your family and friends!
