Publisher's summary

They’re on the run for their lives.

When Commander Kevin Hoyt returns from a scouting mission he finds that he is wanted for treason. Despite his innocence, Hoyt flees with his family and tries to escape the inevitable. With the odds stacked against him, and the Consulate closing in, he is forced to seek refuge on an alien world.

Meanwhile, his pursuer and old friend, Will Dickson, suspects that the reports of treason aren’t factual. When he breaks protocol to negotiate Hoyt’s surrender without waiting for backup, all hell breaks loose. And it’s a decision that may prove deadly on both sides.

Traitor is the first book in an action-packed space opera series that is an intense blend of Star Trek and Farscape.

Awesome story

Commander Hoyt and his family are on the run, although he is innocent of the treason charge. Luck or not his pursuer is his friend. But when his ship goes down he knows it is only time before his friend Dickson catches up so repairs are needed and fast. Dickson isn't sure if Hoyt is really guilty of the charges as well but he can't help Hoyt and his family until he can talk to him and bring him back.

This was a awesome action packed, suspense filled book. It held me captive until I was able to finish it, and left me waiting for more. I fell in love with this family and their plight and found myself cheering them on, no one deserves to be persecuted for things they didn't do. I would love to tell you more but I don't do spoilers you have to find that out for yourselves.

Political & military sci-fi

Well developed & unique, at least for me as I’ve not delved much into this territory.

The main character Commander Hoyt must flee with his family after being unfairly accused of treason. His friend/foe Dickson isn’t sure about Hoyt’s culpability.

I’m intrigued enough to want to continue the series.

Great Sci-Fi Story

I enjoyed this fast-paced science fiction story a lot. Once I started the audiobook, I had to listen until the end. I liked the characters of Keven Hoyt and his family. There was plenty of action. I will be looking for more stories from this author. Steve Barnes' narration was fine, but it took me some time to adjust to his raspy voice. Once I did, I was able to hear the varied voices he provided during his presentation. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

An unexpected, harrowing journey

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is and honest review. Narrated exceptionally by Steve Barnes, who turns the immensely intense narrative of Traitor into an unforgettable fast paced adventure bursting with secrets and gut wrenching lies. The author Drew Avera definitely has spectacular series here as we follow the dangerous journey Commander Hoyt will do whatever it takes to protect his family when he is labeled a traitor within the Consulate. Fleeing to unforgiving alien world with hope, lucky and with unexpected allies, Hoyt and this family may have a chance at survival against those determined to make them suffer. Highly recommended.

Good space adventure

This was an interesting story line that kept me interested to see what would happen next. It does a good job of developing the characters and their reasoning.
The narrator does a fairly good job with the different character's voices, but seemed and bit breathy and rushed in the first few chapters. It may have been intentional to reflect the intensity of the chase so to speak, but to me it was more of a distraction.
Overall I did enjoy the book and would definitely recommend it.

Family based

What a fresh breath of space! I enjoyed the family ties in this book, where the relationship of a father, mom, and two daughters are brought to life in the dangers of galactic tyranny. Very impressive!

A well-written, entertaining read

TRAITOR (CONSULATE Book 1), my second read/listen from author Drew Avera. An enjoyable military science fiction very different than my first read from him. I was given an Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. The book was well-written & flowed smoothly & quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author and in this series but I'm having difficulty finding the next book in this series, in fact, Broken Worlds is high on my TBR list The book was narrated by Steve Barnes. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
