How exactly has one good deed landed me in the penalty box?

Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn has come down with the flu, and my BFF - his PR manager - begs me to put my nursing degree to use and get him back to health. Of course she would call in a favor for the most hated man in Harbor City.

But when he’s finally on the mend and I’m sneaking out of his place, everything goes sideways. Paparazzi spot me and pictures, plus accusations that I slept with him, fly faster than a hockey puck.

At first, all of Harbor City wants my blood - or to give me a girlie-girl makeover. But then…the team finally wins a game. And now this fickle town wants me with the big jerk twenty-four seven.

Argh. I never slept with him the first time! But no one will listen. Then the grumpy bastard goes and promises to break his no-fan-appearances rule to help raise money for a free health clinic - but only if I’m rink-side at every game. That’s not a deal I can turn down.

But when the team keeps winning, and I realize there’s more to him than his bad reputation, suddenly remembering to keep my real hands off my fake date gets harder and harder to do.

Fun story

Overall I enjoyed the story and the characters. What I struggled with was the performance. The male reader was significantly quieter then the female and I felt like I was constantly changing the volume… his impression of a female voice was very annoying and hard to listen to. I don’t expect it to be perfect but when it’s nasaly and so different from the female reader it’s distracting.

The most hated man in Harbor City

What I have noticed about Avery Flynn and what keeps bringing me back is she has a lot of well developed and fleshed out character with real issues. The women are strong willed and a bit vulnerable (because hell women can be and are both.) And the men are not threatened by the women in the stories, not emotionally constipated and actually share what is bothering them to their friends at least. (But yes... I know that this is in fact written by a woman. However, it is good to depict how sharing and communication are key in any relationship or friendship.)

This story is no different. The two main characters were fun to get to know, lots of cute banter. There is a lot of layers to peel back... lot of insecurities. Zach and Fallon are two sides of the same coin. I love how Flynn talked about internet trolls in this one and their impact on some people. No matter how tough those people seem to be.

The narration was great. I enjoyed this performance so much I downloaded more of their work.

I enjoyed this story so much!

I really enjoyed this book. Zach is a tough hockey player, but very vulnerable also. Fallon is her own woman. She's not influenced by what everyone thinks a woman should be. She doesn't do makeup, nails, hair or dresses and refers to her boobs as mosquito bites. They come together initially when Fallon is sent to nurse the puking Zack. The beginning of their relationship is pretty cold (hockey, ice...).

Somehow she becomes his "Lady Luck" that heals his lousy hockey playing and they work out a deal that is beneficial to both. But then the hormones get too strong to deny and they need to re-negotiate the terms. The two characters were awesome and really cute together! I love unlikely pairs and they were definitely that!

I listened to the audio version of this book. The narration by Savannah Peachwood and Brian Pallino was incredible!

I liked it!

As the last book in the series, it was a nice finale. The same narrators do all three books and that makes for great continuity. Overall this was worth the credit!

It’s the second best out of the series

Overall, this one’s storyline was second best in this three book series. However, when it comes to laminating the female leads physical attributes, this one was probably the best. The other two books just over did it with reminding the reader that the female lead was either little on the chubby or ugly side. This one did not over do it and thank god for it. Therefore, without those reminders every 5 minutes, I wasn’t thrown off the storyline while we were in the middle of connecting to the situation that was currently being described. Lastly, I have to admit I mostly read these books to listen to Brian Pallino’s sexy voice but this one did not disappoint me.

Tomboy

LOVED THIS ONE!!!!! Zach is really just a great big teddy bear when you get to know him and has had a hard time of it but now that he has Fallon Hartigan on his side as his Lady Luck things are looking brighter for him and the Ice Knights. What starts as a bad case of food poisoning and Fallon nursing him back to health at Lucy's request turns into so much more. Add in the banter, the texts, the Hartigan family meals, and all those well intentioned and helpful nudges from friends, family members and teammates and how could they go wrong. Definitely cannot miss this one!
