Story
To the rude guy in apartment five, I’m glad you’re happy to have moved into a new apartment, but no: I do not want to have a beer with you. I do not want to have a nude sleepover. I do not want to make you breakfast, lunch or dinner, no matter how many lap dances you promise to give me. I do not need you to serenade me through the walls at 1am. And no, I have no interest in letting you take me on a date. Sincerely, Magnolia Allen

It had been one year, two months and seventeen days since my last date. So my best friend Abby decided to sign me up for a dating app. She guaranteed that she could get me the best date of my life within one week. I didn’t really want to do it, but I figured what did I have to lose? Turns out that I had.

Story
I pretended to be the girlfriend of one of the richest men in New York City. It was only meant to be the one time. I mean it was the week before Christmas, I was shopping with my best friend and we were hungry and wanted to dine at the new swanky restaurant on the upper west side. For some reason the hostess misheard me when I mentioned Max Parker’s name. I’d been complaining that he was the reason why I’d lost my job. Who was I to correct her when it meant that “my relationship” had caused a table to suddenly open up?

Am I friends with JP Cane? Ha! That's laughable. Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day. So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

It started when I hosted a little party for a bunch of new friends. Though “friends” might not be the right word since the invitees were all the women I’d found out my boyfriend was talking to behind my back. When the guest of honor walked in—aka my now ex—things took a turn…. Unfortunately, a stranger witnessed the whole blowout. I was in a mood that night and ended up giving this gorgeous guy an attitude, too. As if my night could get any worse, before he stormed off, he informed me he was actually my landlord.

Marry a man I barely know to save my family from ruin. It might’ve been simple, if my betrothed were anybody else. On our wedding day, my husband-to-be arrived at the courthouse like a black cloud rolling over Manhattan. Walt didn’t crack smiles or pepper in pleasantries as we exchanged hollow vows in front of the judge. His disdain for me was so palpable I assumed we’d walk out of that ceremony and resume our regularly scheduled programming. But then fate was like, Hold my beer. I got this.

Emmett Lasker is impossible to work for. He might be model handsome and stupidly wealthy, but he also has it out for me. He’s given me more last-minute and weekend requests than anyone else, ruining any plans I make. I should quit. And I will. Just as soon as I hit my two-year anniversary and earn out my signing bonus. But after a particularly awful day at work, a breakup (via text!), and my computer crashing, I’ve had enough! So at 11:59 Friday night, I barge into Emmett’s office to tell him what I really think of him. Only, that’s not what happens. AT ALL.

It started out like any normal day. Then the fender bender happened. The guy I collided with drove an expensive car and was drop-dead gorgeous. Too bad he was also a total jerk. We argued over whose fault it was and any other thing that came out of his condescending mouth. Eventually, the police came and we went our separate ways. The insurance companies would have to figure things out. I had a job interview to get to anyway - one I was excited about. Though that excitement changed to disappointment the moment the person interviewing me walked in. The guy from the accident.

Publisher's summary
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to request more information about the assistant job I saw advertised in Sunday’s newspaper with the six-figure starting salary. I have a bachelors degree in English and many years of work experience and think I would be a good fit for the job. My questions are as follows: 1. What is the exact nature of the job? 2. Is it a strict requirement that I live with the boss? If so, can I have friends and others over? 3. The ad states there is a uniform. May I ask what sort of uniform? And why? Also, in lieu of sending a photograph, I’ve sent a picture of my very friendly dog that would also be joining me if I were to get the job.
Yours Sincerely,
Savannah Carter
Ms. Carter,
How do you know you’ll be a good fit for the job if you do not know the nature of the work? My ad specifically stated I was looking for an MBA grad, not an English grad who knows nothing about the real world. 1. This would be discussed in the interview. 2. Yes, you would be living with me. And no guests are allowed. 3. The uniform would be provided on your first day. You don’t need to know why. The job advertisement asked for a personal photo, is this your way of telling me you look like a dog?
Today must be your lucky day because you’re the only person who responded to my ad. Are you available for a phone interview tomorrow?

Fabulous Banter! Wade & Savannah’s Slow Burn.
Fabulous Banter! Wade And Savannah’s Story Is A Slow Burn That Keeps You On The Edge Of Your Seat. Ends In A Devastating Cliffhanger And Concludes In Return To Sender.
This is book one of the Hart Duet. It ends in a devastating cliffhanger. The story concludes in Return to Sender.
Savannah Carter, twenty-two, is a literary nerd. She lacks skills in the kitchen and lives like a slob, but she loves to belt out original verse in poetry slams. She is intellectually intelligent, yet often comes up lacking in common sense. The new Columbia University grad earned a degree in English along with $100,000 in debt. No longer able to live off of student loans, her rent is about to be due and job prospects in the current economy are bleak. She shares a Manhattan apartment with her best friend Lucy, who just got an internship in a small publishing house and is barely making her half of the rent for the month. Either Savannah finds a job fast, or they may both need to leave New York and return home to their parents. As much as she loves them, Savannah doesn’t want to move back to Florida. She enjoys the city and the ability to be anonymous in a crowd and remake herself at will.
Two job ads catch her attention, but both jobs sound a little questionable with their promises of a high income. Despite the red flags and warning bells, Savannah isn’t deterred from enquiring about them. One leads her to Talia Enterprises in New Jersey. She has high hopes, but when she finds that she cannot get away fast enough, she reluctantly pursues the other position – with The Wade Hart. Even before they graduate from an email exchange to a phone interview, Savannah finds herself infuriated with her potential employer and more than shocked at his inappropriate words. Nevertheless, Savannah soon leaves Lucy and New York behind for a six month assignment as Wade Hart’s live-in personal assistant. Herne Hill Village is located several hours outside of the city, and Hart Manor sits just outside of the small rural town.
Wade Hart, thirty, is a businessman focused on trade in emerging markets. He is also a little crazy. He doesn’t trust people, so he lives a relatively secluded and exceedingly private life in his manor. A Harvard undergrad and Wharton Business School graduate, he runs an impressive business while assisting third-world countries to implement sustainable businesses. His magnetic character and good looks guarantee he gets what he wants, whether in business or in his personal life. A sense of awe and mystery surround him. He prefers to avoid talking about himself, perhaps in part due to an unhappy childhood. His best friend is his brother Henry, two years his junior. Their parents divorced, thanks to their mother, who then got custody, moved to Paris, and sent Wade and Henry away to boarding school in England. They got to spend summers at the Hart Manor with their father, but he had ultimately died of a broken heart. Despite their wealth, it seems the Hart brothers weren’t immune to their own share of problems, and abandonment issues probably rank high on the list.
As Savannah arrives and settles into her new job and home at the Hart Manor, Henry Hart is in town. He is flirty and kind – quite different than his standoffish and moody brother. Wade is hot and cold, and is perfectly comfortable with not well-masked innuendo with his new employee. But Savannah is intelligent and quick in her come backs, and her sense of humor prevents things from getting too heavy. She tries to keep perspective and remain professional, though that is impossible around Wade. But between Henry’s off-hand comments, a kooky waitress named Beryl, Mrs. Louisa Thiefton, and a man named Gordon, there are hints at secrets that threaten turn things upside down. Something is happening that Savannah is clearly not aware of.
Wade and Savannah’s story is a slow burn that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The couple’s banter is fabulous! Wade has a way with words, always twisting things around and shifting the conversation as he pleases. He is intriguing and adorable one moment, but utterly despicable the next. Savannah senses in him a little boy that is drowning in a world of hurt, which is the only excuse she has for indulging him. She manages him well, completely capable of sparring him word for word, though there is at least one instance in which she allows him to get away with something far too easily. Despite her inexperience, she manages to get past the various disses and games that might have sent most girls running from Wade. Savannah doesn’t exactly have the traditional traits of a nurturer, but the fact that she can take Wade’s moods and dish back at him seems to give him a level of comfort with her that he hadn’t ever expected to find.
Wade and Savannah’s love/hate relationship takes the reader through a myriad of emotions. Savannah steps into a job at an estate filled with painful family memories that continue to hold Wade hostage. There are laughs and a few tears. There are lots of shocking words and actions. The underlying question throughout is: what is behind the mask? What motivates Wade? The story is well-written and plot-driven. The story is written in first person from Savannah’s POV. I rate this book 4.5 stars.
As for the Audio: it is very well-performed and consistent with the book.
I received an advance copy of this book and audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Cliffhanger Warning!!!
I didn’t pay attention to the description and was shocked when the book just abruptly ended. The story was sub-par anyway, so I won’t be getting the 2nd one. Not awful but not great. No chemistry really and I didn’t feel that the slow burn was developed enough. Like I said, this one was just okay for me.

Why did I purchesed this book???
This story doesn't make any sense.
How can somebody speak to her new boss like that, especially when she doesn't have any other option or quality to find another job? Why is a billionair hire someone through newspaper? Why is she is love with him? Because what I saw is that he only treated her like s×it. Why can't she read between the lines? I mean she does't have to be a rocket scientist to suspect all the comments about a luxury car and the bet.
I'm sorry to say this, but this was a complete waste of time and money.

Hot and entertaining
I loved this book and Laurie West did a great job bringing the characters to life.
What a great start to the new series from Ms Cooper and if this book is anything to go by The Hart Brothers are certainly going to be a hit. If you are looking for a fun, entertaining, slow burn romance look no further than To Whom it May Concern.
Savannah Carter is a 22 year old looking for her first job after finishing college, she is broke with the rent due and will take anything at this point so she applies via email for assistant to The Wade Heart!
The job provides her with financial security but what about the man and why does this job pay so much....well I guess you need to pick the book up to find out who The Wade Hart is and what he expects of his employees.
I loved this story, it ticked all my boxes, the banter is witty, the chemistry is scorching hot and the story captivated me from the first page to the last line, it’s got the perfect mix of love, passion, humour and secrets as well as a few surprises.
Great story with great narration and I highly recommend To Whom It May Concern.

Definite Chemistry! Elizabeth-Carolina Chic’s Read
I personally loved this story. Wade is very hot and cold with our heroine. Savannah is straight out of college and needing a paying job fast. She finds out that there are secrets within his family and her boss is not the nicest person at times, but she can definitely feel their chemistry. I for one cannot wait till the second book.

Still a mystery!
Where do I start with this review? My mind is all over the place and my heart just dropped! Savannah Carter recently graduated from college with a degree in English and now is in desperate need of a job. She and her roommate, Lucy, have shared an apartment where Lucy's dad paid the rent and Savanna paid the bills. Now that they've graduated, Lucy's dad is no longer paying the rent and Savannah doesn't have much in savings to pay the bills, so there's no option but to be employed, and be employed quickly. The first job opening she applies for is a real odd sales scam with John Boy as the boss. Once she figures out that she has to first buy the products she will be selling, that's enough! When another prospect with quirky requirements appears in the paper, Savannah can't help but be intrigued, but she's somewhat put out at the same time. I mean, who orders their employee to live with them and wear a maid's uniform, even if the job pays in the high six-figures! Her inquiry into the "rules" is somewhat curt and it elicits an immediate response from the prospective employer. The Wade Hart, not just Wade Hart, is a man and employer who knows what he wants and sets very specific goals for her to complete as part of the job. Facilitate meetings with different world leaders and give presentations at those meetings, travel with him to foreign countries, grocery shop, make menus, prepare meals and serve him...and that's just the beginning of the list. This is not a normal job, but Wade Hart is not a normal man. He is hot and cold, sometimes impossible to read and often cantankerous and rude. Other times, he's a sweet boss with a kind heart and has an animal magnetism that draws Savanna right into his orbit. His life is a puzzle with many pieces that don't seem to fit. His brother, Henry, is always around, even if he doesn't live in the manor. There's something between them that isn't at all clear. Is he the good brother who offers Savannah some advice and support and Wade the bad brother who confuses her with his on again, off again approach? One thing is for sure. He's involved in Wade's life in a way that Savannah can't quite figure out, and either can the reader. She is warned by people in the village that the "Hart boys aren't at all that they seem." There's a mystery around Hart Manor that Savannah hasn't uncovered, but at least one player involved has tipped his hand in the coffee house. Wade's mother has been described as a cold-hearted bitch who doesn't love her family as much as she loves herself, but does Savannah know the real reason and the real person, or does she only know the mother that Wade described to her? The heat between Savannah and Wade simply sizzles, but Wade always walks away more often than not, leaving Savannah feeling cold and wanting more. I can't figure out if he's playing her or if he has sincere feelings for her. I started this story, really liking Wade but, by the end, I don't like him at all. As you turn the final pages, the Hart brothers show another side of themselves, one that is devious and full of mystery. I can't wait to see how they explain themselves and their dark issues.. Cliffhanger!
Laurie West does a beautiful job as the narrator with a dynamic voice and the ability to bring each one of the characters to life, vividly.

Loved it
I loved this book! I loved reading it and I loved the Audio book. Savannah is fresh out of college and needs a job. She applied to an ad in the Newspaper. She is hired to be The Wade Hart's assistant. I just loved the back and forth banter between them. This is a fun, angsty, hot and sexy story that kept me entertained throughout. The book does end in a cliffhanger and I can't wait for book 2. I highly recommend it!

Unusual romance
I found this story a little difficult to get into and I feel it was the narrators attempt at the male characters. I won't be buying the next instalment even though book 1 ended on a cliffhanger.

Savannah and Wade!
Savannah may be book smart but not so much when it comes to life skills. She finds herself in student debt up to her eyeballs and with no job she has no way of paying her monthly expenses. She needs a job and is running out of options so she can’t afford to be picky. She may not be a perfect fit for the ad she answered but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Wade is a successful businessman who is high on skill, low on patience but he can be very charming if necessary. He requires an assistant who he can call on at a moment’s notice, but he isn’t about to let anyone, especially his employee break through the walls that he has built around his heart due to his past.
Both Wade and Savannah are compelling characters as they try to maneuver the situation, they find themselves in and the feelings that they are developing for each other in spite of themselves. Their interactions have the perfect balance of sarcasm and wit which combined with the secondary characters and the secrets yet to be revealed leave more questions than answers and have us wondering what the future holds for his couple. I thought that the narrator did a great job with both characters and the story.

Couldn’t stop listening
I found this book really intriguing and the story gripped me from the start. I liked all of the main characters and felt like I had gotten to know them. I’m fairly certain that I can work out the secret that the Hart brothers are hiding but can’t wait to read the next book to see if it unfolds the way I think. Although the ‘job’ is very unorthodox and a bit unbelievable, I did find that the story was relatable and believable throughout. I really enjoyed listening to this story.

Dear diary, I’m having the absolute worst week. I’m having the absolute worst week. I was fired from my job at the coffee shop because of some ridiculously grumpy hot Wall Street-looking banker and a bad cup of coffee I made. But the story gets worse because the guy that got me fired is now my new boss. I, Harriet Campbell, am now a housekeeper for a billionaire. And get this, this morning, he walked into my bedroom at 5:00 a.m. demanding his breakfast, and I may have told him to make it himself, which led to him pulling the sheets off the bed and revealing that I slept in the nude....

I never intended to actually send the email. I’m not crazy. It was just a way to vent. I actually did need the money way too much to go off on my boss. Only when I went into office the next day, there was a note on my desk. It read, “A million years is up. See me in my office.”

Being an identical twin has its perks, but when my sister asked me to sub in for a date with Roman Bellisario, I wasn’t exactly thrilled. Sure, he’s sinfully handsome and successful, but he also got me fired from my dream job three years ago. This time, my sister’s promotion is riding on this date, so I have to say yes. And as it turns out, we’re strangely perfect for each other. I sell art. He collects it. We’re both obsessed with the same obscure, mysterious artist that most people don’t even know exists.

Bad idea number 241: sending a dirty text to your number neighbor. In my defense, my friends did it, too, and their neighbors took it as the joke it was. Mine didn't. He responded with a dirty text of his own. Next thing I know, I have a standing texting date every night at 10:30. Until I have to miss it because the stray kitten who adopted me one week ago is sick. The only person I know who can help me at this time of night is my British next-door neighbor and local vet, Isaac Cooper.
