Publisher's summary

Death by dragon fire.

An influential vampire’s been fried. Who’s blamed when the corpse turns up crispy? Naturally, the only dragon in town.

Marge is a giant puppy of a reptile and not at all the murderous type, but she's the prime suspect. When Star finds out that the vampire horde is out for Marge’s blood, she has to act fast to prove her scaly friend’s innocence.

Join Star and Ben as they hunt down the true murderer in this humorous tale with a flirtatious dragon, a cranky feline, and a horde of fiendish vampires.

Dragon Drama and Vamp Crisps

Really loving this series and this edition was no exception. This is a great paranormal cozy mystery with some light romance. This is not an urban fantasy so not as in depth nor gritty with crime solving more Hallmark and Lifetime. Considering the short story length I love how well Cate is at world building and character creation. I adore that Star and Ben are working at the funeral home assisting with the magical dead and the natural entry point for involvement in magical criminal investigations as opposed to the typical cozy mystery trope of a baker or librarian who is suddenly allowed access to evidence and crime scenes. I really enjoy the humor in these stories as well as the brisk pace, the story never drags and time is never wasted in scenes bringing us to new clues and interesting and often hilarious interpersonal relationships of the magically inclined. I also am enjoying the developing community Star is building as well as seeing her character develop with her magic and what she might be capable of doing. The audience is constantly being invited deeper in to the conflicts within the magical world. For those that have enjoyed the other volumes in the series Tickle the Dragon's Tail will not disappoint.

Great short story

I usually avoid short stories because I don't think they are worth the money they cost. I'm glad I made an exception with this novelette.
