Publisher's Summary

Arthur Davenport has it all: looks, money, and a successful future planned by his parents. He knows that something is missing, but when he and Josie, his mother's maid, develop a friendship that can only be based on Christian values, he realizes that his love for her is the key to his happiness. Can he convince her that he would gladly give up his life of luxury for a life of service with her?

Newport, Rhode Island, in the last decades of the 19th century was a stunningly beautiful and glamorous playground for the rich during the summer months, and a perfect setting for a romance between a rich young man from New York City and a local girl who works for his family. The two couldn't possibly expect to have anything in common, as he is expected to follow his father in a financial career and she is merely a maid with a mother who takes care of local children while their parents work.

Arthur Davenport, spoiled and bored, unsure of his place in his family and in the eyes of God, truly meets his match in Josie Warren, who is often just a bit hard on herself for not being the perfect Christian in thought as well as deed. The two meet on the famous Cliff Walk, and neither of them can imagine where or how their instant attraction will take them as he struggles to make his parents understand that his calling is the same as hers, to help those less fortunate. He has no money of his own, and if they disinherit him out of disapproval, how can he help Josie, who has spent her life working hard to help support herself and her mother? More importantly, how can he convince her that he would gladly give up his life of luxury just to be with her?

LOVE CHRISTIAN VALUES IS WHAT HE WANTS

A chance meeting watching the sunrise come up, a sight Josie never tires of seeing before working as a maid in the Davenport House. Arthur happens to see her, and how her face showed the enjoyment of what she is watching. Soon she realized who he was, and her life was one of being invisible. Love and Christian values, is what he wants to share, can he change her mind. For him, he is expected to carry on the family business, having no income of his own. This is the early 1900 some people might not accept her as part of the Davenports if they were to wed.
The narration by Dani Diangelo. brought this story to life. Can be read as a stand alone.

Lovely Christian Romance

I received this audiobook free, as an Audiobook Obsession Reviewer, for an honest review. It was so refreshing to listen to a Christian story. The author did an excellent job of keeping the listener's/reader's attention throughout. The lessons learned by Arthur and Josie are passed on to the listener/reader. A very heartwarming and wholesome story. The narrator did a great job with the characters and their personalities.

Very easy listen and enjoyable!

I loved listening to their relationship blossom as it did. Arthur and Josie may be from different social societies but it did not matter when love called to you. They both dealt with many challenges along the way but it was worth it in the end. Im happy this story wasn’t like many quick romances filled with giggles and naivety. It was mature enough with their business ventures and talks of society. This was an emotional storyline and the narrator was amazing portraying all of characters. I loved listening to Rosie’s mother, Lucy, and Dr. Colt share a few moments together. The build in this story was very full. Im so happy many scenes passed without Arthur’s mother and her evil gossiping lies. But when those lies hit it caused Lucy to take the hit instead of Rosie and that was terrible. Overall the story was enjoyable and I recommend it.

It's like a classic Hallmark movie for your ears

*I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Throne of Grace by Cecily Wolfe is a Historical Fiction Christian Romance set in 1893; Newport, Rhode Island. The dashingly rich and handsome Arthur Davenport has a mission in heart to help the impoverished. When he meets a girl walking along the beautiful cliff face who speaks to his soul he breaks the class structures and seeks her company and support. Josie's and Arthur's passion for God leads them to stand against society's harassments and create a friendship that leads slowly but deeply into a love.
The audiobook plays out like one of the original Hallmark movies. Just cliche enough that you get swept up in the romance of it all but with characters whose depth goes beyond who they like. Josie's choices are light hearted 'oh who shall I love' ditsy choices but serious life altering choices that affect not only herself but the livelihood of her mother. Arthur thinks beyond his mission and his lady to gain the love and support of his family.

Honest review - had to quit listening

I have to be honest, I don't feel great about posting this, but I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, to write an honest review about it, so that is what I will do.

I quit listening at about 1/3 of the book. The whole story of servant girl and rich boy is very nice, but they are both head over heels in love on the first day, while we as readers don't even know the characters yet.
The story isn't so bad but the timing and the build-up could have been done a lot better. I would have loved to know how the characters fared, but I just couldn't get through it.

A good story

I enjoyed this story book. The narrator did a great job with the story. She brought the story to life for me. Josie Warren and Arthur Davenport meet each other while walking on the Cliff Walk. When they meet again its in his home. Josie is one of the maids. He breaks the class stucture and seek her help and support. He talks to Josie about opening a homeless shelter.

The story was very heartwarming and a wholesome. The author did a great job writing this lovely story.

I received a complimentary copy to listen to from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

Enjoyed the Audio Version

I enjoyed listening to this sweet tale of two people from different social classes, back in a time and place where your social standing clearly defined how you were treated and what opportunities you had.

This story took place in Newport, Rhode Island, which is a location that I have visited twice in my life and toured the grand “cottages” of the wealthy. These summer home “cottages” were in actuality grand mansions for the upper crust of society.

I liked the two main characters, Arthur and Josie, as well as the side characters of Josie’s mother and the local doctor. All four of these people valued following God’s leading for their lives.

This was a sweet novel, which was enjoyable to listen to. The narrator did not do separate voices for each of the characters, yet that was not a drawback at all. She had such a lovely voice, it was as if I was sitting in a room, listening to someone read to me. I definitely liked listening to it and would recommend it to those who enjoy clean, Christian historical novels.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

sorry...

I found the characters, and the story in general, annoying. IMO people should do good things for humanity's sake and not for God's sake.
the narrator did not save this book for me.

Wholesome Values

This was a very easy listen and very enjoyable. It is a story set in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The status of a person and the proper etiquette were treated as if they were actual laws. I did enjoy the overall Christian values throughout the book. I really liked the development of Josey and Arthur's relationship. I recommend giving it a listen.
