Eric Riordan doesn't look for trouble, but trouble has a way of finding him. Two years have passed since the Outbreak, and after joining forces with his friend Gabriel, he has managed to stay alive by fleeing to the peaks of the Appalachian Mountains.

With supplies running low, and enemies gathering, the two survivors are forced to begin their journey west to Colorado. Along the way they will find unexpected allies, reunite with old friends, and make deadly new enemies. As difficult as life has been, the most dangerous times lie ahead. Nothing is ever easy at the end of the world.

I really like this series. The first book I thought was a great listen, a zombie book without too much of the gore that can be a turn off for me. This one was a little more intense as Eric and Gabe make the decision to move away from their well fortified location in the mountains with a newly introduced family across country to Colorado.

They encounter an aggressive group who want to steal their cache of guns and the woman with them and are taken in by another group who help them and become good friends.

This story is smart and fast paced.

2nd in Series even better

The only complaint I had about the first book was the narrator. He redeemed himself, no more surfer dudes and valley girl voices.

As some others pointed out there was a survival guide feel to it, lots of info on weapons proper preps, and human dynamics.

Although it is not non-stop gore, it is still a zombie story. More information comes to light regarding the outbreak, and you get to hear the story from both Gabe and Erics points of view.

If you could sum up This Shattered Land in three words, what would they be?

Awe some DUDE!

What did you like best about this story?

Characters of Gabe and Eric are the best, and Narration is fantastic. I love Guy Williams! Keep him in the series and don't go with anyone else!

Which character – as performed by Guy Williams – was your favorite?

Hard to make a Choice, but you have to love Gabriel Garrett.

Get the series from the beginning and listen to all six, you will not be disappointed!

Each book gets better in the Series!

“This shattered land” picks up a while after the first book “No Easy Hope” ends. The book stands alone so you don’t have to read the first one but it’s helpful if you do. The story and the writing are very good, but this book is much slower than the first. The zombies aren’t as present as they were in the first book although they’re around a lot, but I found the story to be very interesting. If you’re looking for a mile a minute zombie thriller this probably isn’t the book for you, but if you like the PA genre and want a well told story immersing you in this tough as nails world with some action mixed in I highly recommend this book.

Narration was pretty good. Not the best but certainly not the worst!

Usually, I always find the first books of an apocalyptic story the best because they deal with the fall of man kind. But James Cook too it to another level this time and I really enjoyed it.
