Publisher's summary

An unfiltered, unapologetic, hilarious, and sometimes obscene assemblage of tales from the down-and-dirty traveling comedy circuit

Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity.

While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants. Not to say he hasn't rubbed elbows with fame. He's crashed its party, snorted its coke, and jumped into its pool naked, literally and often repeatedly - all while artfully dodging fame himself.

Doug spares no legally permissible detail, and his stories couldn't be told any other way. They're weird, uncomfortable, gross, disturbing, and fucking funny.

This Is Not Fame is by no means a story of overcoming a life of excess, immorality, and reckless buffoonery. It's an outright celebration of it. For Stanhope, the party goes on.

The extras are whats worth it.

I am a big fan of Doug Stanhope, and the best part about buying the audio is the fsct that he includes so much more in the audio book version. You get a chance to hear extra stories and tidbits that arent included in the book, or explanations of things for clarity. You get the full book and more.

WOW!!!

I never knew a worthless drunk could create such an awesome book! it gives me hope for myself!!! one of my all time favorite books! It was even better than your last book. maybe because it didn't end in your mother dying... it's on my bucket list to go find the little town that you should be mayor of.

Honest as it gets!

Doug seemed to drink way less in this book during the reading, so the flow is a lot more smooth and steady. He should uave told that one story but didn't, but there was that other story that made up for it. Very great listen, i couldn't imagine reading it. Reading is for people with time on their hands, like lazy people.

If you like Stanhope

Hit youtube for a quick view of his standup to understand what you're getting here - this book will not disappoint. Digging up mother is one of my all-time favorite audiobooks - this book is excellent as well.

At last. It's over.

For me, not funny. Amusing. Enlightening. Or rewarding for the time or money. I hope others can find the pleasure and rewards that passed me by.

Shockingly Juvenile and Crass

Doug is just a typical loud-mouthed, little boy drunk that hangs out with his other adult little boys. I get this. I've listened to his other book. However, his final chapters on people with disabilities and retardation are the most offensive, childish views and made my blood pressure rise to new levels. I have decided that this is the most ignorant and obnoxious "comic" who should be banned from publishing and listing his books on Audible. He has dimensions of degradation beyond belief and I will henceforth avoid him like the plague.
