A small change today can change our tomorrow. A small change 100 million years ago can change everything. No one really noticed when things started to change. Some animals vanished. Some new ones appeared. Then some things appeared that were monstrous. No one seemed to notice except Ben Cartwright and the other survivors of hidden plateau in the depths of the Amazon jungle. Story
Down there, beyond the deepest caves, below the crust and the mantle, there is another world. An old woman locked away in a Russian asylum has a secret - knowledge of a 500-year-old manuscript written by a long-dead alchemist that will show a passage to the mythical centre of the Earth. She knows it’s real because 50 years ago, she and a team travelled there. And only she made it back. Today, caving specialist Mike Monroe leads a crew into the world’s deepest cave in the former Soviet Union.

Story
100,000 years ago the object hit the lake at the deepest point, quickly sinking into its mile-deep Stygian darkness. The sheets of ice closed, time moved on and the land forgot. But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

TOTALLY HOOKED!!! Action meets Horror done right!!
This is my first Greig Beck novel and Alex Hunter book but it certainly will not be my last! I'm really surprised by how much I enjoyed this book because I usually can't stand action hero novels or their ridiculous plots but this story was really well done and the characters were awesome! Beck's writing offers excellent imagery as well as impressive amounts of research into his ideas. The research aspect alone lends his work a level of authenticity and believability quite foreign to many other fictional works of its kind. Narration was also expertly performed and really brought the entire experience to life.
What I love most about this book is how it combines elements of my favourite genre
(horror) and blends together elements of sci-fi & action to create a really exciting and unique experience. The horror part of the book relates to the biological threat to the human race as well as the inhuman creature who stalks them in the jungle. I found the ideas not only spooky but very imaginative and original.
The other aspect I loved about this book was the story. The plot explodes into action right from the beginning of the novel and we are introduced to Alex Hunter, the elite American "Hawks" (soldiers), and the sexy scientist, Amy Weir who venture deep into the jungles of Paraguay. Several different events take place at once and Alex and the others face one threat after another from flesh-eating disease to demonic, skeletal creature and more... The suspense is totally addictive-I couldn't stop listening! The story also earned my admiration for not having sloppy plot devices or predictable outcomes (which I can't stand) and the suspense and danger actually felt real as a result. Even the ending was intense and unpredictable!!!
This book was AMAZING and I can't recommend it enough! I'm downloading the other Alex Hunter books as we speak! ;)

Reilly, Rollins, Cussler .....
If you are a fan of Matthew Reilly, James Rollins and Clive Cussler (and I am of all three) then you will enjoy Greig Beck's Alex Hunter series. I refer to this gendre as "Doc Savage stories"..... IMO, the original Mega-Hero.
Hunter is sort of a Bionic Man.... special ops Delta/GB on steroids - battling assorted evil alien beasties.
I really enjoy this narrator too. Check'em out!

Green Hell raises the series to another level
Where does This Green Hell rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Green Hell is the third in the Alex Hunter series and by far the best, the series has always taken a slight horror element nothing to scary more Sci-Fi but Green Hell certainly cranks the horror element up a notch in the creepy factor, again not really scary just darn creepy in some parts.
What other book might you compare This Green Hell to and why?
I'm not sure the series is quite unique taking a enhanced soldier up against nightmarish creatures with also a little techno thriller. I would suggest you listen to the series from the beginning, you don't have to because central story elements are slightly retold from book to book but you really need to get the low down on some of the characters that show up in each book, there are not many but it still helps.
What does Sean Mangan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Sean Mangan is terrific like he was manifested just for this series, his character accents are perfect, his female voice great and his delivery and pace is some of the very best I've listened to.
Any additional comments?
If your reading this then you are indeed considering this to listen to, well look no more and buy it because it is better than you are probably imagining.

Would you listen to This Green Hell again? Why?
Loved it, couldn't stop listening to it. I liked the characters and the story line, it never grew dull, it was fast paced without losing details. I also enjoyed the notes about what some of the background materials and articles the author used for the story.

3rd book down
The Alex Hunter series is by far one of the most entertaining series of books available on audible. These books begin in ways that make you immediately start to feel as if you are a true observer of the events unfolding, and not just simply hearing a story. If you enjoy action, life threatening riddles, and creature features, then you should absolutely listen to any of the Alex Hunter books. "This Green Hell" invokes a primal fear of what is possible and how little we truly know about our universe. With it's showcase on the fragility of man, what better background to boast the power of the books main protagonist.

Crichton, Rollins and Beck!
A tautly written, intense, scary, wonderful jungle adventure. Utterly satisfying: monsters, heroes, transformations, soldiers, betrayals.
This Green Hell sucks you in and leaves you ready for Beck's next book.
In my opinion, a Guaranteed great download for fans of Michael Crichton, Michael Cordy and James Rollins.
