A New York Times best seller

An inspiring personal story of redemption, second chances, and the transformative power within us all, from the founder and CEO of the nonprofit charity: water.

At 28 years old, Scott Harrison had it all. A top nightclub promoter in New York City, his life was an endless cycle of drugs, booze, models - repeat. But 10 years in, desperately unhappy and morally bankrupt, he asked himself, "What would the exact opposite of my life look like?" Walking away from everything, Harrison spent the next 16 months on a hospital ship in West Africa and discovered his true calling. In 2006, with no money and less than no experience, Harrison founded charity: water. Today, his organization has raised more than $400 million to bring clean drinking water to more than 10 million people around the globe.

In Thirst, Harrison recounts the twists and turns that built charity: water into one of the most trusted and admired nonprofits in the world. Renowned for its 100 percent donation model, bold storytelling, imaginative branding, and radical commitment to transparency, charity: water has disrupted how social entrepreneurs work while inspiring millions of people to join its mission of bringing clean water to everyone on the planet within our lifetime.

In the tradition of such best-selling books as Shoe Dog and Mountains Beyond Mountains, Thirst is a riveting account of how to build a better charity, a better business, a better life - and a gritty tale that proves it’s never too late to make a change.

The author will donate 100 percent of his net proceeds from Thirst to fund charity: water projects around the world.

Reseñas de la Crítica

Thirst is a story about all of us. In sharing his own remarkable journey, Scott shows us how to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, how to find hope in despair, and how simple acts of generosity can transform everything from what we believe about ourselves to how we connect with each other. In the end, Thirst is about what matters most. Love.” (Brené Brown, PhD, author of the number-one New York Times best-seller Braving the Wilderness)

“This book does for the soul what water does for a parched throat. Scott Harrison shares his extraordinary transformation from party animal into the visionary leader of one of the world’s most creative and crucial charities. His story will inspire you to think bigger, feel deeper, and give more.” (Adam Grant, New York Times best-selling author of Give and Take, Originals, and Option B with Sheryl Sandberg)

“Scott Harrison's Thirst is a hope-filled book about finding your purpose in life and pursuing it against all odds. From the many unbelievable stories Harrison shares from the field, to the moments when charity: water’s survival was in question, this book will inspire you to believe that you are more than the obstacles life has put in your path, and the world is more generous than it often seems.” (Arianna Huffington, founder of HuffPost, founder and CEO of Thrive Global)

I loved this book! So much information and such a different look at how to help others plus the incredible water challenges so many face.
I love his outside the box thinking and how honestly he talked about his journey.
I think it would be an excellent book to add to school curriculum for all the discussions it would provoke about personal decisions and global needs and situations

Wonderful approach to giving

This was incredible. The story is riveting, and I found myself both laughing and crying while listening. I was so inspired that I joined the spring and am a donor to charity water after reading. It’s a must listen!

Of all the books I have read this year, this has been my favorite by far. This intersects many fields of interest, so I believe that even if you aren't sure you want to read a book about a 'charity' that you will find value in this. This is not just about charity work, but a book about building a business from the ground up, changing and disrupting an industry, the importance of marketing, working through a tough family situation involving ongoing sickness of a parent, the leaving behind of everything you know to start a new life, the transition to adulthood and journey of self discovery, balancing family life with a demanding career, and more. If any of these one topics sounds interesting to you or in alignment with your usual genre of reading, then this book is for you.

Not only is this a great personal testimony of changing the course of one's life for good, but this also gave a deep dive into just how challenging it is to create one of the world's greatest charities and bring about change on a global level. Scott overcame so much, and seeing how he solved problems, sought the Lord's wisdom in trying times, and changed the lives of millions made this book one of my favorites.

This is about so much more than a charity story

I heard about charity water before but I didn’t know anything about it’s history or mission. After listening to this book it became my favorite charity and also I also joined “the spring” making monthly donations to help bring clean water to more and more people around the world. This book is amazing and super inspiring!!

I really loved the way you’ve managed to change the general ngo/charity/giving from being nerdy to being cool. I’ve been obsessed with that idea for a long time now. Thanks for making me believe I’m not crazy and others feel the some!

I have heard Scott speak twice and he is inspiring. This book is even better. A captivating account of the challenges and the successes and honesty in the lessons learned. The beauty is seeing God’s hand in all of this. The answered prayers and the hope that is born from a relationship with God. Thanks to everyone at Charity Water!

A must read book for this year!

I could NOT put this book down! Such a powerful realization that life in certain areas of the world is much different then ours. This book made me feel so many different emotions. It kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to hear more. Congratulations to Scott Harrison on the continued success in bringing the world clean water!

I pre-ordered “Thirst” week’s ago and have been waiting impatiently for launch day, yesterday. Scott Harrison was a very successful NYC club promoter turned clean-water-for-the-world evangelist when he realized there was more to life than fame, money, and Spanish villas. I’m not surprised his book made me cry, compelled me to pray, and finished in one day. Cannot recommend this book more. I have read 40 books this year and this one is by far my favorite.
