Publisher's Summary

Is it murder? Is someone playing mind games? Or is it both? The chilling answers are in this twisting novel of psychological suspense by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of Trespassing.

The apparent suicide of a beautiful aspiring law student unites two strangers, connected only by their tangled suspicions: that nothing about Margaux Stritch’s tragic end is what it looks like.

Firefighter Jessica Blythe is courageously making her mark in the male-dominated Chicago Fire Department while navigating a complicated relationship with a detective. A first responder to the crime scene, Jessica has a professional duty to Margaux. Then there’s Kirsten Holloway, a wife and mother pulling herself together after an emotional breakdown. But her husband’s infidelity has left her in a place full of mistrust and fear. Her dreaded curiosity about Margaux’s death has become very personal.

Two women are about to converge on a trail of blackmail, secrets, troubled pasts, and hidden shadows, where violence and desire entwine, unchecked. And they’re not the only ones stepping into the dark. Someone else is following. But is it to warn Jessica and Kirsten? Or to usher them into a nightmare?

The whole bunch of them have issues!

Very interesting and entertaining book. Written from three different points of view. The wife’s, the barely legal pregnant girlfriend and the firefighter/investigator having a fling with a mysterious man. When the wife first sees the girl speaking with her husband then finds a red pair of thong underwear in his suit pocket and finally the girl winds up dead. Murder/suicide? The wife sets out to find the truth. Someone has sent her pictures, none too clear but with a distinctive tattoo that shows the possible killer could either be her husband or her son.
Christina Traister does an excellent job narrating.
Great who done it, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I wanted it to be over!

I’m sorry, but it was not for me. I listen to loads of books, and this one is hard to follow! Plus none of the characters or even likable, they are complete turds. I felt like everyone is so obsessed with “me-me-me.” Just not entertaining. This is one twisted and perverted (pedophile makes his foster daughter call him Grandpa🤬) story that made my skin crawl. I would let it play in the background just so it would hurry up and end, it was entertaining for a small time and I thought it would get better, but it I hated it more and more. It was read and listen for free via Kindle unlimited, or I would have returned it!! Seriously. This is a DEBBIE DOWNER and a half.

Good but definitely not great!

For every woman who has ever been cheated on, this story will draw you in. I enjoyed it, for the most part and by that I mean it was written well enough to keep me interested. The problem is, it meandered. The twist ending was exactly what I thought it would be, although it is also what I wanted it to be. I will give this author another shot.

Not good

I was told this was a great read. Personally it was completely unbelievable and had zero character development to invest in the story. Overall reminded me of a bad episode of SVU.

I loved it...until the very end.

I love Christina Traister as a narrator. She did an amazing performance. At times the book was a little confusing as to which person she was supposed to be. I would have preferred if the voices could have slightly changed for each character.

The author did an amazing job writing the story. However, I was not expecting the end. I feel conflicted as to why that had to be the ending.

Kept my interest but....

It’s a fun, twisty read however somethings are really far fetched. Still I enjoyed the story and I probably would’ve rated it higher if I had read it. The narrator was awful! She doesn’t have an annoying voice, she seems to have the same voice for the two main characters. So as the chapters went back and forth I have to go back to figure out who’s point of view it was. Worse yet is when they had a conversation together!
