You are about to hear several more stories in this volume that are shocking and disturbing, but they’re also true. These things really do happen in the world. The stories paint a picture of human depravity that many would prefer to remain hidden. However, it is only by dragging evil into the light that we can begin to understand its terrible allure.

Story
Polly, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Mary-Jane are famous for the same thing, though they never met. What they had in common was the year of their murders: 1888. The person responsible was never identified, but the character created by the press to fill that gap has become far more famous than any of these five women. For more than a century, newspapers have been keen to tell us that "the Ripper" preyed on prostitutes. Not only is this untrue, as historian Hallie Rubenhold has discovered, but it has prevented the real stories of these fascinating women from being told.

Story
Serial killers: Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Jeffrey Dahmer are often the first names that spring to mind. Many people assume serial killers are primarily an American phenomenon that came about in the latter part of the 20th century. But such assumptions are far from the truth. Serial killers have been around for a very long time and can be found in every corner of the globe - and they're not just limited to the male gender either. Some of these predators have been caught and brought to justice whereas others have never been found, let alone identified.

Story
On 7 August 1985, Nevill and June Bamber, their daughter, Sheila, and her two young sons, Nicholas and Daniel, were discovered shot to death at White House Farm in Essex. The murder weapon was found on Sheila's body; a Bible lay at her side. All the windows and doors of the farmhouse were secure, and the Bambers' son, 24-year-old Jeremy, had alerted police after apparently receiving a phone call from his father, who told him Sheila had 'gone berserk' with the gun. It seemed a straightforward case of murder-suicide, but a dramatic turn of events was to disprove the police's theory.

Out at sea, the Hawkses begged for their lives as they were forced to sign everything over to Skylar. In return, they were tied to the ship's anchor and thrown overboard - alive.

Publisher's summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of They Walk Among Us written by Benjamin and Rosanna Fitton, read by Benjamin Fitton.
A Chilling Casebook of Horrifying Hometown Crimes
How well do you really know your friends?
Neighbours, friends, doctors and colleagues. We see them every day. We trust them implicitly. But what about the British army sergeant who sabotaged his wife’s parachute? Or the lodger who took his landlady on a picnic from which she never returned? From dentists to PAs, these normal-seeming people were quietly wrecking lives, and nobody suspected a thing.
In this first book from the addictive award-winning podcast They Walk Among Us, Benjamin and Rosanna serve up small-town stories in gripping detail. They’ve hooked millions of listeners with their intricate and disturbing cases, and now they dig into 10 more tales, to provide an unforgettably sinister true-crime experience, scarily close to home.
It could happen to you.

If you like their podcast
I’m a huge fan of this podcast, so this audio book felt like listening to many short episodes of it.
The author’s telling of the stories is very dry, succinct, and focused on the facts.
If you prefer your true crime with a bit more flare, this may not be for you.
I personally loved it.

A gripping listen.
I have been a fan of the "They Walk Among Us" podcast for a long time now, and had been looking forward to this audiobook. I am pleased to say that it hasn't disappointed!
The title says it all really - although we'd like to think that killers, con artists and bad people in general are a separate breed, easily recognisable by their horns and cloven hooves, it's just not true. You've probably stood behind them in the queue at Sainsbury's, had your hair done by them, or chatted amicably over coffee!!
Here we have ten stories of the monsters that walked among us before they were caught. The narration is excellent ; no surprise to those of us who are avid listeners to the podcast!
If this is your introduction to "They Walk Among Us", I hope you will give the podcast a try for more of the same. Oh, and as someone used to say when winding up a much-missed crime programme, don't have nightmares, do sleep well!

Having been a listener of the world class podcast I was delighted to hear that the super talented Fittons were bringing out a book. Their podcast is fantastic and this book is every bit as good. The choice of cases is brilliant as they are all different in their own ways meaning the book has a lovely flow.

Fantastic!
A thoroughly gripping collection of 10 stories that left me wanting more.
The narrator Benjamin Fitton continues his remarkable way of articulating these stories as shown on the podcast. Not all the stories are of murder and they are not sensationalised.
A fantastic book and hopefully there will be more to follow.

Total Binge Fest !
One of my fav podcasts in a book? I was afraid they might try something fancy but they stuck to the format that's made them so popular; a single narrator and "just the facts, ma'am" plus the tiniest touch of black humour but none of the editorialising that other crime hosts get into. Love listening to this narrator - such an easy voice to listen to. Please do another book!!

There were two stories that I hadn't heard before but I'm sure someone has done a podcast about them. I was disappointed, same old same old.
