Publisher's summary

The central conceit of this book is that it is an oral history that women passed down from generation to generation, based on inspiration by God instead of genetic relationships or priesthood authority designations. The book is given to Christ at the end of the two volumes, when he appears to righteous Lamanites and Nephites waiting for him.

I suppose at some point I might be interested in writing a third part that includes the stories of the end of The Book of Mormon, but I felt as I wrote it that this was complete in itself, because it was looking forward to Christ, and the story of the fall of these two peoples would have a very different tone.

Finally! The Women Behind the Scenes!

The Book of Mormon is a male-dominated book. It’s about men, by men, with women making up minor side characters. It’s the history of a dysfunctional family in which the brothers try to kill each other. There’s lots of violence. It lacks any major female voices. Of the three named female characters unique to The Book of Mormon, only two speak any words at all. What would happen if women’s voices were imagined? The author gives us a rich cast of characters in The Women’s Book of Mormon starting with the voice of Sariah. This is the fictional oral story of the women behind the scenes left, largely left out of the Book of Mormon, such as King Mosiah’s queen. What has been sorely missing from The Book of Mormon is available in The Women’s Book of Mormon with women’s points of view, women’s heartaches, trans women, parenting decisions and discussions, female spiritual leadership, and a female prophetess who prays to her Mother God. Each character is unique and often surprising. Bravo, Mette Harrison, for giving us the missing female voices.

Wonderful Companion to The Book of Mormon

This is a wonderful companion to The Book of Mormon. The stories of both support each other. I felt the spirit in every word. I anxiously await Volume 2.
