Touching story

This is my first experience reading something by this author and I really enjoyed it. It's a really well-written story full of emotion and touched me in so many ways. I really enjoyed listening to this as the narrator did a nice job of bringing all the emotion and characters to life and differentiating each personality. Ellie's life was going really well, and then the unthinkable happens. It's a touching story that will really warm your heart and give you all the feels. A beautiful story that I am glad to have had the opportunity to listen to.

A Heartwarming Story

This book was my first experience with J. M. Spade's work. The story was joyful and heartwarming. Ellie, the protagonist goes through many changes. Her character arc is extensive; however, the darker emotions like anger, bitterness, angst, etc are glossed over in the pages of the story. Traumatic events are depicted but there is no lasting emotional reactions to the incidents. Sharmila Devar's narration is fine as her voice is pleasant and clear, but she lacks expressiveness in her elocution. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

I thought this Book was great!

The narration was utter perfection, it really brought the book to life in a thrilling and passionate way.

There is the perfect amount of angst and romance to keep you hooked.

I loved how their relationship unfolded so we could see these amazing characters grow in ways you never expected.

I would suggest picking up a copy asap, you will not be disappointed.

Unlikeable characters with scattered plot

I was given a copy through Story Origin in exchange for an honest review. The beginning was off putting. It was frustrating to hear the main character say that she traveled to all these cities and countries such as Madrid, Venice, and New Zealand, and then said she helped build a church in Africa. Where in Africa? It’s an entire continent. Additionally, the entire beginning was showing and not telling. A long soliloquy of the character’s past that was hard to pay attention to. There was insensitive wording. For example, referring to patients as “Mr. ALS” and “Mr. Dementia” instead of as their names. The plot jumps around too far. I read another book by the same author that I enjoyed, so I was surprised with this one. The book doesn’t folloe the traditional structure of rising action, climax, falling action. Things just sort of happen. Also, the book went on for too long. I do admire the author’s ability to create many different characters for the patients, but there seemed to be too many that were left with incomplete character arcs. But it’s okay, not every story can be for everyone.

Not a clean read

I guess I did not realize when I got this audible that it was not a clean read. I stopped listening at about ch 3. If you are looking for a clean read, keep looking. If you don't mind, this might be a good read for you.

Something is Lacking

I received a copy of this audiobook from the author on Story Origin in exchange for an honest review.

When I first started listening to this book I was actually quite bored. I was annoyed with the narrator's voice and found the book to be quite slow in the beginning. I kept with it because of the review process.

I have to admit, I'm glad I stuck with it. I didn't fall in love with the book, but I grew to like it a bit. I won't be continuing the series, but this one ended quite nicely. This book is written from Ellie's point of view and the narrator never changes her voice to match other characters. This book is less about the romance - although there is one, but it's not something the reader/listener actually gets involved too much in. Truthfully, I don't actually feel like Ellie loved Archer all that much. If it wasn't for the fact that she keeps saying she loves him, I would have thought it wouldn't go as far as it does. The book instead was mostly centered around the daily activites of Ellie's life as a nurse and what she does to help those who are dying.

This isn't a book I would recommend to my friends and family, but if you're interested in nursing books then you might be interested in this. Just don't expect too much from it.

I wasn't too thrilled with the narration. I don't blame the narrator since she only has the author's words to work with, but I felt like it was very bland. I was quite annoyed with her. Other books I have listened to, the narrator tends to change their voices in subtle ways to make the characters their own, but not this narrator. It all was heard in Ellie's voice. I didn't enjoy that.

Good storyline but a bit long for my taste

I liked the overall storyline of this book. It was heartfelt and the main character overcame hardships. It had minimal foul language and love scenes were kept quick without too much detail. I usually prefer quicker reads with a simple HEA love story. It took a long time for me to get through it as things were drawn out and certain topics felt left up in the air. By the end things were explained but it just didn’t seem to flow enough to keep my interest. The narrator did well.
