Publisher's Summary

The impossible has happened. The Lord Ruler is dead has been vanquished. But so too is Kelsier, the man who masterminded the triumph. The awesome task of rebuilding the world has been left to his protege Vin; a one-time street urchin, now the most powerful Mistborn in the land. Worryingly for her Vin has become the focus of a new religion, a development that leaves her intensely uneasy. More worryingly still the mists have become unpredictable since the Lord Ruler died and a strange vaprous entity is stalking Vin. As the siege of Luthadel intensifies the ancient legend of the Well of Ascension offers the only glimmer of hope. But no-one knows where it is or what it can do…

Brandon Sanderson 5 stars all the way :-)

I have gone through all of your books and they all should be given 5 stars. It would be awesome if you could release all your books on Audible for us Aussies. By the way...... I can't wait for the next "The Way Of Kings" book.

Slow Start...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would (at least I'd recommend starting the series with the first book). Starts off rather slow and never quite reaches the heights of the first book of the series, but all in all a good continuation of the Mistborn saga. The final chapters of Well of Ascension point to an even more compelling storyline to come in the last book, but it stands well on its own too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

OreSeur - The growth of the relationship between Vin and OreSeur is quite interesting and provides much of the early to middle part of the book's interest.

Have you listened to any of Michael Kramer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The previous novel in the series; both of them are very good performances.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Unable to do so for the initial half (a little too slow), but the last half I read in one sitting.

A bit meh

The relationship conflict in this book really killed it for me. There was a mix of arrogance and insecurity from Elland and Vin that I found really frustrating to read. I very quickly lost interest in these two characters because of it. Not great, considering they're the main characters.

The few instances we get to see Breeze's POV were really good, however.

I also found the couple of scenes where the Terris people were studying together to be really amateur method of info dumping the reader. They were a grind to read.

But again, the main issue I had was with Vin and Ellend.

A decent continuation to this series

Wasn't maybe as good as the first book, but I was invested enough in the characters that I still enjoyed it.

An amazing read

The book starts out slow but the gradual buildup is definitely worth it. I expected a cliche good bs evil fantasy but the story surpassed my expectations.

Blimey - it's longer than the first one!

Over 27 hours long!

The Mistborn series is a cruel mistress. If you've spent 24 hours on the first book, you'll be damned if you'll spend 27 hours on the second.

But I did. I had too.

Having spend so long with the characters during the first part of the epic, I had to see what happened next so I we go again with Michael Kramer manning the wheel once again.

The story has the same feel to it as the first but our heroes and villains are in a very different scenario.

The political under-current of the first novel becomes more important during this one and sometimes it can feel as if this is a little heavy going.

However, our hero Vin is following a different path and keeps the story flying along as she battles an array of interesting new characters.

There is a complimentary magic system to the first which adds another level of detail to Sanderson's story.

There are some brilliant turns and surprises and if you have listened to the first one then you must listen to this.

Understandably - don't start with this one - listen to book 1.

Second book and still gripping me

OK. Firstly, this is not a sequel and thus isn't simply a rehash of the first concept, this is the next installment.
If you listened to the first book and enjoyed it, then you'll enjoy this.
This installment adds depth to characters and adds more detail to the backstory of the world; introducing whole new species and new magic into the world created in the first book, as well as adding insight into the magic already introduced in the first book . This is a worthy listen, although I would imagine that starting on this book would leave the listener baffled as it requires the background and gentle introduction provided in the first book otherwise you will feel cheated.
Overall, a great listen.
Thank you once again Mr Sanderson.

Excellent

Would you consider the audio edition of The Well of Ascension to be better than the print version?

I wrote a review of the first book in the series and this is the same - excellent audiobook with very good narrator. Thoroughly enjoyed all three books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All characters well developed.

What does Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Just love being read to and this narration was very easy on the ear. I know some people don't like Michael's American accent but he has a wonderful timbre to his voice that I appreciate and he changes his voice for all the characters so it is easy to identify characters - very well done in my opinion.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

No idea for a tag line but would definitely see the movie!!

Any additional comments?

Thoroughly enjoyed this series of books.

Would you listen to The Well of Ascension again? Why?

Maybe once i have completed all Sandersons other books.

What other book might you compare The Well of Ascension to, and why?

Nothing it is its own amazing series nothing like it

Which character – as performed by Michael Kramer – was your favourite?

Too many to have a single favourite but Sazid Breeze and Ham are so cool

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Had me screaming like NUFC won the prem at points. had me on the edge of my seat sometimes had to pull over car lol

Any additional comments?

Awesome

This is an amazing book. I loved the first book in the series, and I was a bit concerned by some of the reviews I'd read about the second book, but I needn't have worried.

This second book was more 'political' and 'scholarly' than the first book, with less emphasis on allomancy than the first one, but it was just as gripping and exciting, while giving us more insight into the characters and the nature of the landscape of the Final Empire.

Michael Kramer reads the books wonderfully and is totally captivating.

I also love the fact that it's child friendly, and hasn't turned into soft porn like some other sequels I've read recently... While it's not aimed at younger children, you could listen to it with them around without worrying. It's a great book for teens and adults.

I want to hear more

I was a little concerned about the US accent of the narrator (a stupid prejudice to assumed that fantasy characters have English accents!) but he's a great reader and, once I got used to it, the story galloped along. Characters came to life and I couldn't wait to buy part two.

Where have you gone to 'Well of ascension' ?

I was really enjoying this story (on my iphone audible app) only to find it wouldn't play beyond part 2 chapter 6. I'm very frustrated especially because my library doesn't have the book and I'm desperate to find out what happens next...

I hope the bug gets fixed really soon.

Great Second Book

Couldn't wait to get into this and further the story. It did not let me down either. 'Poised and full of body', would be a good way to explain it.
Lots of action and character building you become engaged and engrossed.

As I only allow myself to listen to it while I'm training, I've found myself training more and more just to be able to listen to it.

Can't wait to start the next book!!!

Sanderson and kramer have done it again.

Michael Kramer is in my opinion, the best audible voice actor out there. Listened to a bunch of books read by him and his acting and voice have enhanced my enjoyment of each one so much. So far every book narrated by him has been deserving of a 5/5, and I don't expect to ever give him less.

Sanderson's books and writings are extremely similar. He has definitely become the writer I compare every other book I pick up to, seeing if they can fill his shoes. So no surprise the book also gets a 5. I'd say it wasn't as strong as the first book as there was no character like kelsier. It's hard to explain, but the second book just feels like there is a gap missing where a character like kelsier should fit into. Presumable Sanderson intended the reader to feel like this throughout, to help the reader sympathise with the characters when Kelsier is mentioned. If this is done on purpose, he has done a bloody marvellous job. Although the gap wasn't filled in the end like I feel it should have been, rather than waiting until the next book to have it filled.

Twist upon Twists

I do not trust Brandon Sanderson, the man can not let you get comfortable with a notion or even the rules of his own world, he keeps changing them. And it is for that reason that I cannot put down this book and I am starting the next one right now. I loved this book, thank you Mr Sanderson.

I really like the style and the choice of the narrator! Having listen to the first 2 books of the stormlight archive, it is interesting to identify signature elements of this author's fantasy creations. Overall a really good "read".

Left me wanting more

Well of Ascention was a great book, but at times it was quite slow and I feel like the dramatic, high action ending didn't have the pay off I was hoping for. Sanderson is great at writing intense and gripping series but I feel sometimes individual books suffer because they're more focused on setting up the next book than telling their own story.

Couldn't stop listening!

This is that kindnof book that I feel I could recommend to anyone regardless of their particular perusasion in genre or style. That is because, whatever the setting, it is the quality or depth of the characters that has the most power to immerse you in a story. And in the case of those in this story, you have founts of interesting philosophy on their exterior at once with candid and fascinating explorations of their incredibly familiar and complex souls.

Great Book, Slightly Dodgy Recording

This book was very compelling and a great middle book for a trilogy, leaving things open while still progressing other things nicely. The recording was a bit scratchy in places however which was annoying. I tried on different devices so it must have been an error when recorded.
