Publisher's Summary

What was once the Peradaini Empire is now a wasted landscape of burned, empty cities and abandoned farmlands. The Blessing, now more numerous than ever, continues to spread across the continent, driving refugees to the dubious safety of the city walls. Unharvested crops mean that few strongholds have enough provisions to last the winter, although most know the grunts will take them before starvation will.

But hope survives. A piece of stolen magic just might halt the spread of The Blessing if Tejohn and Cazia can find a scholar with the skill to re-create the spell. If such a person still lives.

Unfortunately they are nearly out of time. The few remaining human enclaves are isolated and under siege. Worse, The Blessing has spread to other sentient creatures. If Cazia and Tejohn are going to strike back at their monstrous enemy, they cannot delay.

And there's another deeper question left unaddressed: Where did The Blessing come from, and why have they invaded Kal-Maddum?

The Way into Darkness is the final book in The Great Way series.

Author Harry Connolly's first book, Child of Fire, was listed in Publishers Weekly's Best 100 Books of 2009.

Both interesting and exciting through the end

The only fault that I found in this saga is that, regrettably, it came to an end. I'm pleased to find another author in Harry Connolly whose craftsmanship at creating a story with a unique take on the arcane arts but with a cast of characters and challenges that captivate one's interest such that they find it difficult to put down after any chapter.

As expected, Michael Kramer's narration was almost spellbinding on its own.

A wonderful saga.

Nice Finish

The trilogy combines fine world building with excellent characters and puts a very good story together around them. Of course, Michael Kramer can make a textbook sound good, but with a story like this, he adds whole dimensions with intonation and pacing. Altogether, an entertaining listen.

Kept Me Entertained

This story had a lot of fun elements. Werebears, magick, giant eagles... the pace was solid, characters were pretty well developed without being overly wordy, and the story kept my attention. My only gripe is that this is one book broken into three parts. Kind of a bummer to spend 3 credits to make it to the end. Books 1 & 2 end abruptly. But, that being said, I still went for it and bought the last 2. That’s saying something. So, go for it! It’s a solid listen.

I completely hate the ending.

This was an incredible series and masterfully performed by Michael Kramer. The problem was that the hanging, so many questions, ending sucked the joy of the series out of me. Great Way, please write a continuing trilogy!

The Great Way

Wow, the ending was brief and felt rushed but it was a great tale definitely worth listening to. Performance is what you'd expect from Michael Cramer.

Incomplete

I really did enjoy the series and almost feel bad for the 3 stars, but the ending was terrible. There was no big climax in the story, the story just ends... I really think that this series should have had a 4th book to wrap up the story. The last half or so of this book felt more like the author was forcing a lead up to the end to the story while also including major plot elements he did have time for.

Good book

Enjoyed the book, but it's rife with Masonic principles. I would caution against allowing this book to affect your spiritual outlook.

Great ending to a great series!

Fast paced action, danger, and crocodile people made this book a fun and exciting read. I loved that even though there was a good ending it wasn't all unicorns and rainbows, the people still had to do a lot to save their own world. My only small complaint is that the answer to their questions seemed simplistic. I was hoping for a bigger reason to the troubles of the universe. I don't think I worded that right but I didn't want to reveal any spoilers.
