Publisher's summary

This is an audio-enhanced version - with music and sound effects - of one of the greatest science fiction stories of all time. The War of the Worlds is H. G. Wells' classic tale of a Martian invasion of Earth that has become one of most revered and imitated novels ever created - a book that forever cemented Wells as the "Father of Science Fiction”.

Months after a series of explosions on the Martian surface, a “meteor” crashes to Earth, and an invading force emerges from an extraterrestrial cylinder.

Our nameless narrator relates the horrifying tale of the slowly dawning terror that pervades the planet as the seemingly unstoppable invading force sweeps over the globe, brushing aside the resisting human force with little effort.

Can the human race somehow overcome the Martian hordes and regain control of their planet? Is there any force on Earth that can overcome the invaders?

The War of the Worlds stands as one of the greatest tales of the genre and a classic story from one of the leading lights of late 19th-century literature, H. G. Wells.

This unabridged version includes a brief biography of the author.

Fully experience the REAL War of the Worlds!

If everything you know about H.G. Wells The War of the Worlds is a Halloween hoax and the sonorous tones of Orson Welles, prepare to have that impression obliterated. In this fully-realized, detailed and thrilling reciting of the classic tale, Kevin Theis and Fort Raphael accomplish so much. We're in England, noting explosions on the surface of Mars and then watching the invading horde as they land on Earth, rise up in their deadly machines and wander the formerly peaceful countryside spreading death and destruction. In this Fort Raphael version we hear the sound of the heat ray as it does its awful work and share in the storyteller's terror as he hides below the surface of a river to avoid being killed, only to be half scalded to death by the water. (Hear the hissing of the water as the beam's ray swings close by.) So many big and little details spelled out as we 'watch' the people and towns terrorized and the hopeless misery of the beleaguered inhabitants. But it's a "war" with two competing forces and we watch the battle move and the tactics employed by both sides. The strong narrative thread of Wells novel combined with "theater of the mind" sound effects makes this book a fascinating audio journey. Turn-of-the-century England in the grip of The War of the Worlds is a vivid place under the capable hands of Fort Raphael and accomplished narrator Kevin Theis.

A great production of Wells' classic

A wonderful production by a talented narrator. I'd listen to the phonebook read by Kevin Theis, but this is better!

What Fun!

I wasn’t ready for the depth of this presentation. It was such a pleasure the way the narrative was mixed with music and sound effects. It reminded me of old radio plays the way it unfolded, and I was swept away! I highly recommend this even if you are familiar with the novel. I must look for more from this company. Great Job!

A bit shouty

It was great to hear the original story. The narrator seemed to be yelling the whole time.
