A heartwarming and empowering novel about thriving after tragedy, from the author of the “enchanting, hilarious, and insightful” (Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times author) My Magnolia Summer.

Violet Adams is the perfect, youngest child in a family of loud, passionate women on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. As the sweet, traditional one, she’s always been the steady hand in her family but after a sudden breakup and subsequent tragedy, she doesn’t know who she is anymore.

Aly Knox, Violet’s best friend, is a young influencer still struggling with the loss of her mother and adjusting to joining Violet in Southern living. With her best friend’s help, Violet is determined to break out of her shell—and who she thought she was—no matter what. And what better place to look for success, meaning, and possibly love than the Lowcountry of South Carolina?

This was a good book. Interesting and moving. I had to really focus on which character was talking and who they were. I think VBF has grown so much since her last book and look forward to her future books. She is her mother’s daughter!

Loved the characters but not so much certain narrators. Cute story and descriptive writing! Love a low country read,

This book was a good story. Not quite the character development and affection that VBF had in her first book, but it was a good read. I look forward to the next book. Please, however, get narrators that match the story. The main narrator almost ruined the story by not being able to express the feelings or the Southern charm of the characters.

Her Mother's Daughter

From the moment I finished reading My Magnolia Summer, I have cheered for Victoria Benton Frank! She has done beautifully filling her mother‘s shoes in writing engaging, funny, and sweet tales! The Violent Hour is so FUN to read, and filled with characters you ‘ll wish you had as friends. I will be crossing my fingers that we will see Victoria’s next book very soon!

I read most of the novel book at the beach, but because I missed it so much when I was driving, I listened to the audiobook at times. I found that the multiple narrators threw me off with their variety of accents that fluctuated even within one character. Sometimes Violet had a charming, heavy drawl, yet other times she had none at all, for example.

Worth the Wait

Though I’d long been a fan of the authors work, I should have quit this one right out of the gate, as the huge excuse for southern accents & narration were AWFUL, as was the story.

A HUGE waste of my time & money, neither of which I’ll ever get back…
