I think this book is supposed to provide context / history for the next books - It's like a novella - Julia is a widow that has lost her husband to war but there is no body in his grave - When vampires hear her request to take her with him; Julia is given options which send her on a journey to find her husband.

New author and narrator for me. Not bad, I'm only mildly interested in this post WW2 paranormal romance with a few mysteries. It is only the prequel though.
