A nobleman is killed in his own manor with a uniquely American weapon - a sawed-off shotgun, and Sherlock Holmes, the world's greatest detective, is asked to solve the murder. The investigation takes Holmes and his intrepid companion Watson from Sussex, England, to America's Pennsylvania, where he tangles with a terrorist organization of Irish miners known as the "Scowrers" - and his arch-enemy, the fiendish Professor Moriarity. The Valley of Fear is one of only four full-length novels starring Sherlock Holmes.Public Domain (P)1986 Recorded Books, Inc. Detectives Tradicionales Ficción Literaria Género Ficción Misterio

Reseñas editoriales

When someone is murdered with a sawed-off shotgun, Holmes must venture from England to America to solve the crime. The Valley of Fear is one of just a few full-length novels starring everyone's favorite sleuth. Patrick Tull gives a spot-on Holmesian performance, sounding just as our heroes should: British, intellectual, and sometimes a bit snooty. With Tull's vocal range, listening to this audiobook is like watching a play. Sherlockians will get a good laugh, too, listening to this Londoner explore America.

I have had the 3 volume set of the complete Sherlock Holmes for some time, now, but I bought these excellent renditions of the 4 Holmes novels in lieu of 'fish and fumble' to find them among those massive collections.
All in all I found this rendition quite good: the different characters were recognizable throughout and the voice and inflection carried the story well.

Quite excelent addition to a Holmes library!

This is a thrilling story, and quite engaging. This tale centers more on justice than mystery, though mystery is constant throughout. The characters are interesting, and though the ending is somewhat predicable, the novel is compelling. A good read.

Patrick Tull does so well in his dramatization of this story that you forget it is one man reading it -- and of course the quality of writing lends to that as well. It is very interesting to hear a man with a British accent affect an American accent, too! Great story and great reading.

Masterful Job!
