In The Unseen Body, a fascinating journey through the human body and across the globe, Dr. Reisman weaves together stories about our insides with a unique perspective on life, culture, and the natural world.

Dr. Jonathan Reisman - a physician, adventure traveler, and naturalist - brings listeners on an odyssey, navigating our insides like an explorer discovering a new world. With unique insight, Reisman shows us how understanding mountain watersheds helps to diagnose heart attacks, how the body is made mostly of mucus, not water, and how urine carries within it a tale of humanity’s origins.

Through his offbeat adventures in health care and across the globe, Reisman discovers new perspectives on the body: a trip to the Alaskan Arctic reveals that fat is not the enemy, but the hero; a stint in the Himalayas uncovers the boundary where the brain ends and the mind begins; and eating a sheep’s head in Iceland offers a lesson in empathy. By relating rich experiences in far-flung lands and among unique cultures back to the body’s inner workings, he shows how our organs live inextricably intertwined lives - an internal ecosystem reflecting the natural world around us.

Reisman offers a new and deeply moving perspective and helps us make sense of our bodies and how they work in a way listeners have never before imagined.

"Petkoff gives a flawless performance of this doctor/naturalist's memoir, conveying both his inquisitiveness and assuredness with aplomb." (AudioFile)

This is not a textbook to know everything about our body, it's a few glimpse of the body through the author's personal journey & interest

this is the book I can come back over and over again

This author has a fascinating perspective of the human body. I liked this book so much I got my retired nurse mother a hard cope for Christmas and recommended it it to my nursing student daughter.

For the person who has a general curiosity about all things, rather than intense curiosity for a few things.

Great book

He has such a great way of explaining and educating how the human body functions in such a fascinating way. His thirst for more knowledge compared to the average medical student/resident is contagious. I’m hoping he has written more about his journey of becoming a better, well rounded physician.

Captivating

Great !!!

The author has been able to weave a tale of science, with the romance of curiosity and discover. Peppering in some more obscure and quirky culinary concepts added more depth to this story. The chapter on adipose tissue made me cry, as I struggled with the pain from the stigma of obesity. The narrator was engaging and easy to listen to for the whole book.

Fantastic story telling.

As an average person, it helped me understand my body better and how doctors try to heal it when it’s harmed.

Explains well what doctors do

It covers most of the body in an easy language, and does not dive i to too much detail or speculation. Very practical and conveyed in a manner makeing it good for a lay person.

A light and easy introduction to how a physician approaches the body
