“Deaver’s labyrinthine plots are astonishing”(The New York Times Book Review) in this bestselling thriller featuring a hitman who is out to kill a young girl in Harlem and in order to save her, Lincoln Rhyme has to solve a cold case that’s over 150 years old.

Unlocking a cold case with explosive implications for the future of civil rights, forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme and his protégé, Amelia Sachs, must outguess a killer who has targeted a high school girl from Harlem who is digging into the past of one of her ancestors, a former slave. What buried secrets from 140 years ago could have an assassin out for innocent blood? And what chilling message is hidden in his calling card, the hanged man of the tarot deck? Rhyme must anticipate the next strike or become history—in the New York Times bestseller that proves “there is no thriller writer today like Jeffery Deaver” (San Jose Mercury News).©2005 Jeffery Deaver; (P)2005 Simon & Schuster Inc. The story was ok for me, had its moments of dragging and the "slang" used was cringeworthy. Narrator was ok. This is about my 4th book in the series and this one wasn't as good as the others in my opinion but still an ok purchase.

Ok story but still worth a listen.

Maybe I've read too many of these ,because the unrealistic events are getting on my nerves. If CSI is unbelievable these stories are worse, plus they have super woman Amelia there to save the day. What saves the book is a great twisting plot, as well as great characters good and evil. It's a good book if you can overlook how farfetched it is.The entire Ryme's series despite short comings is heads above a lot of mysteries out there now. God narration

Great book but long pauses made me check to see if the book stopped. A real pain. It almost made me stop listening but the story was good and should not be dismissed because of bad production. Please fix. Don't harm a good listen!

Pauses excessive

The story is suspenseful like most of the books in this series. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. The slang from the reader seemed forced which took away from the story a little but it was still dynamite

great book great read! I enjoyed 98% of this book.

Many layered store which unravels slowly but smoothly. Good primary characters within the main cast. Satisfying solution to the many questions posed.

More than meets the eye mystery
