Publisher's Summary

From the author of the Wicked Bay series, comes an angsty YA/NA enemies-to-lovers romance. Cocky football players, school rivalry, and the girls who get in their way. Get ready...the Raiders are coming!

Hailee Raine only has to survive one more year. One year of life in her football obsessed town. One year of nauseating school spirit. Just one more year of her cruel step-brother Jason; and his cocky, arrogant, football-playing friends.

She hates them. Especially, Cameron Chase, the guy she thought was different.

Cameron Chase has the world at his feet. He has it all; good looks, talent, and the charm to go with it. He has colleges lined up at the door, all wanting a piece of Rixon Raiders star wide receiver. Until something threatens everything he's ever worked for, and only one person can quiet the war raging inside him. But he's supposed to hate her; his best friend's sister.

She's off-limits. Untouchable. She's trouble with a capital T.

Then Hailee finds herself in the middle of a football prank gone wrong...and suddenly hating each other never felt so good.

The Trouble with You is the first book in The Rixon Raiders series. All books in this series can be listened to as stand-alones!

Angsty YA/NA Bully Romance

Overall 3.5 stars
Performance 4.5 stars
Story 3 stars

The Trouble with You is a mixture of many tropes/genres - brother's best friend, bully, enemies to loves, and sports. It was an entertaining YA/NA listen, but there were a few times I was just left shaking my head. These characters didn't act like they were seniors in High School, and I feel like it would have been better if they had been in college. The bullying and "pranks" that take place in this one had practically zero repercussions, and I often wondered where the adults/parents were. One incident in particular was especially vile and degrading and I'm not sure why this assault was not taken to the authorities. The "boys will be boys" mentality was hard to get past and had me rolling my eyes throughout. That said, it still had me intrigued enough to want to find out what was going to happen with our characters. The epilogue set up the next book and I'm curious to find out more about Jason & Felicity.

The narration was great and I enjoyed both Wen Ross and Sarah Puckett's performances. They voice male and female characters well and I didn't have trouble differentiating between characters. Wen Ross has a deep and sexy voice, but I did feel that it was a bit too deep/mature for 18 year old Cameron. Overall, this was an angsty and entertaining listen.

Bully romance

In the grand tradition of enemies to lovers but with high school antics. Hailee is tough as nails and I truly don’t think I would have survived the bullying she endured. Her stepbrother Jason and his group of football gods are tiny terrorists. It’s really so good in that NA bully way. I enjoyed everything about it but would highly recommend not letting children under the age of 18 read this book. Cameron has a ton of potential to be a great BBF.

The narrators are kicka$$ and really capture all the angst and drama you love in NA.

There is a certain event towards the end of the book that really threw me. The way it was handled left me completely aghast. It took me more than a week to gets my thoughts together on this. If this were marketed for adults I wouldn’t bat an eye but I don’t like to normalize certain destructive behaviors against children. I had the same issue with the end of After and the second book in the Abbi Glines Field Party Series.

Overall it’s a really solid story and I would continue in the series.

Oh MY!!

Let me tell you!! I loooooooooved this book! It was the perfect amount of angst. You hate them, you love them, you hate them some more. The chemistry is exploding from every page. My heart and mind are warring between Love and Hate. It is a CLOSE battle. The characters invoke so much emotion from you that you feel just as crazy as the characters in this book.

The narration was TOP NOTCH! Sarah and Wen gave stellar performances. They made a wonderful team and were a pleasure to listen to.

Slow build but worth the time

I experienced this story using Audible and will admit it wasn’t what I expected. It did take me a little time to connect with the characters, I struggled with who to like, who not to like.. but as it progressed something clicked and I was hooked until the end.

Great Story!!

I liked this story a lot but this book made me want to reach in and knock some heads together. Full of teenage angst and bullies and the battle to overcome it. I was invested and couldn’t wait to see how it all played out.
That being said, I did feel that the underaged drinking in bars and with adult permissions seemed a bit excessive & unrealistic particularly for the star athletes. IMO
The narration was absolutely amazing.
I would recommend this book!

Angsty Bully Romance

This was a refreshing YA/NA romance that was unlike so many that are out right now. It was a mix of sports romance and brother's best friend with lots and lots of bully angst thrown in. I loved the dynamic between the characters and the way we got to see them change throughout the book. The characters and story were unique and had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen next! I cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series!!!

The narration was amazing! Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross did a great job bringing these characters to life!

Loved it!

I love finding new authors. I’m also loving YA bully romances right now. LA Cotton threw the winning touchdown with this book! I have read and listened to it, and it’s pretty dang good! It has all of the angst and drama in spades. Sexy football players and a heroine that can hold her own. HEA and no cliffhanger.

The football players rule the school. Which includes Hailee’s nemesis, her step brother Jason, and his two best friends, Cameron and Asher. Hailee is into art, Cameron is the star wide receiver for the Rixon Raiders. Hailee just wants to survive her senior year, Cameron has more important things to worry about besides school and football. Hailee just wants to be left alone, Cameron helps Jason extract his on going revenge on her.

I can’t wait for the next book, The Game You Play, which we get a preview to in the epilogue 😜

Sarah & Wren did a fantastic job narrating this book! Their voices are perfect for Hailee and Cameron!

You'll Have No Trouble Enjoying This

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Sarah Puckett does a great job in bringing Hailee Raine to life. Her voice won't have you thinking high school but if you want to be able to picture Hailee's emotions than Ms Puckett will do that for you. Wen Ross does a great job in bringing Cameron Chase to life. He has the perfect voice that will let me know what Cameron is thinking and feeling. Ms. Puckett and Mr. Ross are the perfect pair to bring this author's words to life.

Even though most of the characters are in high school, they act and do things that someone older might do. This is just one reason I feel this is more for the new adult. Unless you experience the story first and then you can make an informed decision about whether you feel this book is appropriate for your child. Another reason, and one thing that I had an issue with, we have someone of authority that doesn’t mind underage drinking. Good thing this is fiction because otherwise that person would be in a lot of trouble and would lose their job. But if you’re thinking your teen might like this, you could use it as a teachable moment.

I've read the book and now I've listened to it. I can't tell you which I prefer because there may be a time where I would prefer to read it for myself. But if I'm having a busy day and lots to do, I would rather have someone tell me the story. One difference between me reading and a narrator doing it is they do a much better job at emoting what the characters are going through. I was also able to pick up on things that I didn't notice the first time around.

When our author created this story, she also created some great secondary characters. One such character is Flick. She’s just what Hailee needs.. She’s a great sounding board as well as helping Hailee get out of her comfort zone. Jason Ford is something of an obscure character. Our author does a great job in showing how much of an aggravation he is to his stepsister. Then we have Asher. He is an experience and that's where a narrator helps. This may be one series where I will have to have two copies - one book and one audiobook.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Enemies to lovers!

This is the first book in the Rixon Raiders Series. This is an interesting mix of new adult, brother's best friend, enemies to lovers and sports romance. The story is nothing like I ever read before. Hailee and Cameron's story is very angsty and heartbreaking. Hailee and Jason, her stepbrother, have an awful relationship. They hate each other. Cameron is caught in the middle of their war. The story is heartbreaking and heartwarming afterward. I love the ending, and can't wait for the next book in the Series. Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross did an amazing job with the narration. I enjoyed listening this audiobook. #AudiobookObsession

Great story and performance

I have read all of LA Cotton's Wicked Bay Series and absolutely loved them, so when I saw The Trouble With You was available on audio I had to listen to it, I am so glad I did. LA Cotton writes teen High School drama so well, I almost feel as though I've been there and know the characters personally. Every character is extremely well developed, each one with a story to tell that you're desperate to know, even the minor ones. I adored Hailee and Flick and the fact that they weren't the usual high school, cheerleader heroines and Cameron was just what I like in a leading man - hot, sexy and loving. The dynamic he had with his family was a pivotal part of the story and it added a great back story to the main one between him and Hailee. I also have to give a shout out to Asher who I absolutely loved. His mouth and sense of humour were just up my street. Jason definitely has his secrets and it appears Flick/Fee is buried deep in there with him, so can't wait for that book. The narrators were excellent and I didn't feel uncomfortable when they were narratting a different gender because they didn't overplay it. I would definitely listen to more books that they've narratted and will most certainly listen to more LA Cotton books. A big 5 stars across the board for me.

Trouble is Everything

Hailee has to make it through her senior year with her stepbrother the football god. He has hated Hailee since her mother married his father and has made her life hell. Along with his best friend Cameron. This will be the craziest and hardest year due to rivalries and the craziness of high school kids. This book has all the angst and drama that you want and then some. Great Narration.

Fantastic bully romance!!

I was completely shocked with LA Cotton’s writing. It flowed. Almost effortlessly. It seemed like it was written just for audiobook… it was like someone was writing down life. I really don’t know how else to describe it but it was captivating. Incredibly interesting. I’m really looking forward to the other books in the series and whoever Jason gets as his counterpart; I hope she’s one crazy girl that puts him right in his place! Really, I’m giddy to read/listen about him. I can’t wait to see what Miss Cotton does to make me like Jason. She’s got a great talent so I have all my faith in her.

These two narrators are fantastic! I always enjoy Sarah Pucket and Wen Ross’s narrations. They work really well together and seem to just flow. Sarah Pucket was perfect. She handled Hailee’s spitfire attitude flawlessly. My only complaint or advice is that Wen Ross try and soften his voice a bit. He sounds so manly… which is great but these are high school students. He doesn’t sound exactly like a high school guy.

great connection with characters

I love a good YA story that really takes you back and makes it feel like you can totally relate to the characters. While this is a YA it's not just a simple lovey dovey book in this story we have enemies to lovers but it's not a simple story by any means. I feel like the author did a great job at setting up the characters to see the growth throughout the story and how things change over time and situations. It's always great when you can really connect to the characters and their feelings. As for audio books go have to say I really enjoyed the duel narration and thought they did a good job making the the story a great listen. I am so looking forward to book 2 in the series.

Teen Angst, Love, & Hate at it's Finest

This was my first book to read/liste by LA Cotton! This angst-filled drama had so much heart and heartbreak!! The hate and cruelty Jason had toward Hailee were almost unbearable!
The relationship between Cameron and Hailee was a fun trainwreck to watch and cheer for!! This book punched serious heat and sexual tension. It also had All the mistakes made and lessons learned!
I cannot wait for book 2!!
The narrators were great! I did enjoy the male voice on a faster setting.

Cute

Senior year has finally come! Hailey can finally get rid of her football-obsessed stepbrother and all he stands for. She won't have to deal with any of his friends ever again. Until some pranks go wrong and she finds herself constantly crossing paths with Jason's very best friend. And she finds that she might not actually hate him. I enjoyed this story a lot more than I thought I would. I thought it would be cringy and angsty. It wasn't. It was actually an enjoyable read. I am not going to say it marks right up there with my favorites. But I did really enjoy it. I would definitely read the rest of the series. I enjoyed the narrators as well. I have to be honest, Wen Ross does a lot better narrating with Kai. I've listened to multiple audiobooks with Wen and Kai. The chemistry between them sizzles and adds so much to the story. However, these two were great as well. They are two of my favorite narrators of all times and it was nice to hear them narrate a book together! I fully recommend this book. It was a great read. I can't say it was page turning or read it all in one sitting, but it did come close to that. I won't lie. It was above and beyond what I expected of the book. I really enjoyed it a lot. I look forward to hearing the rest of the series.

The Trouble with You

As a first book of a series, The Trouble with Your offers a great introduction. The narration performed by Sara and Wen was amazing. It was truly a joy listening to them.

The story brought back lots of memories from the books that I used to read during my younger years. It was refreshing for me, since I have moved to different genres long ago.

I highly recommend this book, not just to young adult listeners, but to readers/listeners of all ages. The story is simply timeless and I love it!

Excellent YA Romance!!

An enemies to lovers YA romance that has a ton of angst and drama, with characters that are super easy to love. Lots of emotion throughout, I loved that Hailee is a strong and independent female main character. Cameron and Hailee's attraction is magnetic but they resist it. The story also seems to be a slow burn but has enough action to keep us fully captivated in this nonstop listen. Excellent start and I can't wait for more.

Sarah and Wen are incredibly talented narrators and they did a phenomenal job throughout this performance. They really brought out the chemistry between the characters and transitions between points of view were great.

The Trouble with You is the first book in the new Rixon Raiders Series. I've never read this author before and I'm so glad I picked this up! This story had all the angst that I love from a high school bully romance and so much more. Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross did an excellent job with the narration. I highly recommend this one for all ya/na enemies to lovers and bully romance fans. I'm excited to get my hands on the next one!
