Publisher's summary

Amateur sleuths Jude and Carole take on their third case when a terrible discovery is made in the cellar of a grand old house. Grant and Kim Roxby had hoped that their first dinner party at Pelling House would make an impression with their new neighbours. And the next day it's certainly the talk of the town.

For their guests - including the couple's old friend Jude - had been enjoying a pleasant meal before they were rudely interrupted by a gruesome discovery. A human torso hidden in the cellar. Jude races home to Fethering and her friend Carole with the news. And soon the pair are back in Fedborough, questioning the locals.

Great series

Love this series. I just see Pam Ferris and Annette Crosby as Jude and Carol. Relaxing, comfortable light hearted even though it is murder. Characterisation and social comment almost reminiscent of Jane Austen. Narration by the author is needless to say spot on.

Simon Brett at his best

I love the fethering mystery books and this one doesn't let me down.
Jude and carol are the odd couple but their friendship grows as we go along the series. I want to be their friend and help with the current murder mystery. I'm always a little sad to reach the last chapter.

A good old English murder mystery

I became a fan of the series of Feathering village. The story is very unusual, a very interesting collection of characters. Simon Brett has a very good eye for detail in describing human nature. He is also a brilliant narrator. It was not my favourite conclusion but still wanted to read the next in the series.

As always, entertaining and enjoyable. Love Carole and Jude and look forward to following more of their investigations.

Excellent apart from one detail

Shame that a German accent was used to convey a Dutch accent. Otherwise an extremely entertaining listen.

Simon Brett's my new favourite author

This was a good solid mystery, I binged this over two days. I like Simon's writing style and performance as the narrator. I still want to know more about Jude, it's actually starting to irritate me. I think I have an idea of her background but need to find out if I'm right? She comes off as a bit of a grifter or maybe a con woman who retired, or just an ex hippie? just about to buy the next book!

Witty & fun!

Having heard my dad guffawing loudly over Simon Brett's novels for years, I thought I'd give him a try, having run out of Hamish Macbeth & Agatha Raisin novels. This one is particularly good, & has many amusing observations on the English middle classes. My -Anglican- you'll get the reference once you've read the book!- parents live in Chichester, & I lived there as a teenager, so its humour resonated with me, but anyone who enjoys laughing at petty snobbery would enjoy it!

So glad to have discovered Simon Brett

I love the balance of light & subtle comedy and biting adjectives combined with crime! Easy to follow without being obvious, it's an easy wind down from stressful days! Thank you Mr Brett!

Feathering Mysteries Get Better Each Time

Jude and Carol investigate the murder of a woman many thought had simply left her husband. Along the way they encounter several suspects and red herrings and are caught up in the insular goings-on of the locals of the nearby town in West Sussex. Simon Brett narrates the novel from one of his best series.
