Publisher's summary

A Scot on fire.

Wrongfully imprisoned and tortured by an unseen enemy, Broderick MacPherson lives for one purpose - punishing the villain who targeted him. But when a wayward English lass interrupts his revenge, he loses his enemy in the dark. Now, her compelled testimony could send Broderick back to the prison that nearly killed him. Unless they find a loophole - an inconvenient, shockingly tempting loophole.

A beauty under pressure.

For Kate Huxley, visiting her brother in the Scottish Highlands is a blissful escape from the stifling expectations of the marriage mart. Blissful, that is, until a scarred, beastly Highlander with a heartbreaking past frightens her out of her wits, making her a witness in a criminal inquiry.

A match to light the darkness.

Kate has no wish to testify against a man who's already suffered too much. But the only remedy is to become his wife. And she can't possibly marry such a surly, damaged man...can she? Well, perhaps. If it means she can stay in her beloved Scotland. And if he promises they'll never fall in love.

Contains mature themes.

The Highlander and the High Society Londoner

Love the MMC but the FMC can get a little annoying especially right in the beginning of the story. If you can push through her ignorance, she gets better and their love story is worth it. I also can not wait for the brothers’ stories

New Joy

Well done! I have come to really enjoy the culture of the highlands. This latest offering does not disappoint. The author has put together all the elements of a rousing highlander story. Action, sacrificing, loving, fighting for righteousness, redemption, family, and resolutions are the elements that come to mind. Each element in this story is not overwhelming and works well to create the perfect read. Well done! Narrator of this story does the perfect job of being the characters so well that the listener is engrossed in the story, not aware of the narrative. I am going to keep vigilant eye out for any new addition of this family’s story. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Kate grew on me--another solid protag

It took some time for Kate to grow on me, especially after so enjoying Annie in the first book. Not Kate's fault she had such big shoes to fill, and she really came into her own. Narrator is lovely, even with Broderick's deep voice.

OMFG! 🥰

This is only my second Braden book. I was reading Mary Jo Putney before and this is better than the Rake, which is also amazing. If you like your romance a little more…erotic? Not sure how to describe their lovemaking. I have no idea why reviewers complain about Kate. I love her. I can totally relate and she’s really funny! I laughed out loud several times. Shit girl, you got me hooked now. I strongly suggest reading this series in order to.

Great book! Checks ALL the right boxes

This will be one of those rare books that I’ll be listening to annually, if not more frequently. It’s got so many great layers and checks ALL the right boxes...
✔️Set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands
✔️Historical Romance with just enough angst and tribulations
✔️Extremely likable, multi-dimensional and thoroughly developed characters
✔️H&H have great chemistry and steamy, hot love scenes
✔️Great drama, with a few engaging surprises
✔️Tons of, literal, laugh out loud moments. (Seriously, crazy Mrs. McB is one of my favorite characters of all time)

On top of the great story, Ruth Urquhart’s narration is perfection!

Hopefully, Elisa Braden has plans to add many more books to this series - So far, it’s been a great one!

I love this series

Mrs. McBean still a favorite character. I enjoy books that make me laugh, this one did not disappoint. Love the dialog, family loyalty, and of course the love story. Fingers crossed the other McPherson men get their own stories.

Did not want it to end!!

These two books by Elisa Braden have been by far my favorite of any Scottish romance. Of course Ruth Urquhart is unbelievable in narration and I feel none compare to her. I did not want this story to end, between the last and this one. I truly hope there are future books for the McPherson Clan. You will not be disappointed in purchasing these and listening to them over and over.

Wonderful

Oh I did not want this one to end!!! It was so good. The heroine is spunky and funny and a sweet air head (kind of) and the hero is a crabby guy who thinks his life is over but of course she changes that silly notion rather quickly!!! Very very good!!
