Publisher's Summary

"The heroes and heroines who triumph in his stories are not those with the most powerful magic, but rather those who demonstrate the most kindness, common sense and ingenuity."

As every fan of the Harry Potter stories knows, the shelves of the Hogwarts Library are home to all sorts of fascinating books. There are three in particular you might have heard mentioned by certain Hogwarts students and that you can add to your listening list too, including The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

As familiar to Hogwarts students as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty are to Muggle children, Beedle's stories are a collection of popular fairy tales written for young witches and wizards. So, if you're wondering what's in store...well, your ears are in for a treat.

Once you've checked this fabulous Hogwarts Library book out, you'll start by hearing the author's introduction, read by Sally Mortemore (librarian Madam Pince from the Harry Potter films). Then it's time for the tales to begin....

You'll laugh along to "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot" as you listen to the havoc wreaked by a father's impish gift to his son, read by Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick - Harry Potter films).

"The Fountain of Fair Fortune" will take you on a quest through an enchanted garden, alongside three witches and a luckless knight, read by Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood - Harry Potter films).

In "The Warlock's Hairy Heart", you'll be warned about a young warlock who is fearful of love and turns to dark magic to avoid it at all costs, read by Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy - Harry Potter films).

The calamitous meeting of a foolish king, a cunning charlatan, and a mischievous washerwoman unravels in "Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump", read by Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley - Harry Potter films).

And finally, the most iconic of Beedle's stories. "The Tale of the Three Brothers" - with its message of humility and wisdom - will introduce you, dear listener, to the Deathly Hallows, read by Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger - Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, London's West End and New York's Broadway).

Each of the tales is accompanied by wise and whimsical notes from a certain Albus Dumbledore, surely everyone's favorite headmaster, read by Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore - Fantastic Beasts films).

We're told these five fables have been firm favorites in wizarding households for centuries, and now it's your turn to experience these tales from the Wizarding World as you've never heard them before.

Fans of The Tales of Beedle the Bard are sure to enjoy the other Hogwarts Library books: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages.

Around the world, more than eight million children live in orphanages and other institutions. What may be surprising is that about 80 percent of them aren't actually orphans. They have family who could care for them, with the right support. Lumos is an international children's charity founded by J.K. Rowling. Named after the light-giving spell in Harry Potter, Lumos' mission is to ensure that by 2050 all children will grow up in loving, protective families.

A note about the Lumos Foundation

Around the world, millions of children live in orphanages and other harmful institutions. Evidence shows about 80% of them aren’t orphans and have family who could care for them with the right support. Lumos is a global charity founded by J.K. Rowling to tackle the root causes of family separation and is working to ensure every child is raised in a loving family environment.

Below, listeners can hear Tales from Lumos: Transforming Children’s Lives, an audio documentary explaining the importance of Lumos’ work through the personal experiences and reflections of two of their Youth Advocates, who are both care leavers: Jerome from the United Kingdom, and Dumitrița from Moldova in Eastern Europe.

With an introduction by Jude Law, this documentary accompanies the release of – for the first time in audio – The Tales of Beedle the Bard, an audiobook that continues to raise crucial funds for Lumos’ work around the world. About the Author

J.K. ROWLING is best known as the author of the seven Harry Potter books, which were published between 1997 and 2007. The idea for Harry Potter famously came to her during a delayed train journey from Manchester to London. The enduringly popular adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione have gone on to sell over 500 million copies, be translated into over 80 languages and made into eight blockbuster films. Alongside the Harry Potter series, she also wrote three short companion volumes for charity: Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in aid of Comic Relief and Lumos, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, in aid of Lumos. J.K. Rowling collaborated with playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany to continue Harry’s story in a stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which opened in London in 2016 and is now playing worldwide. In the same year, she made her debut as a screenwriter with the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first in a series featuring Magizoologist Newt Scamander, which was inspired by the original companion volume. For as long as she can remember she wanted to be a writer, and is at her happiest alone in a room making things up. She has received many awards and honours, including an OBE and a Companion of Honour, and a Blue Peter Gold Badge. She lives in Scotland with her family.

Hard to enjoy because of sound effects.

I couldn't finish it. The sound effects were so distracting to the story that I couldn't enjoy it. the readings were ok. the stories themselves were a little short.

Amazing story!!!

I love this book because it is such a page turner. It has been one of J.K Rowling’s successes. It is the best extension of the Harry Potter. I love that it is read by the actors and actresses from the franchise. Definitely an incredible book.

Harry Potter Fans Must Have!

This is absolutely a must have! It has some of our favorite voices/actors from the Wizarding World like Luna, Jenny and Professor Flitwick. Then on top of that you get the extra insight from the young Dumbledore (Jude Law) after each fable which was really an incredibly fun addition to have him participate in the audio book. This edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard is completely immersive and family friendly as it is the wizard fables meant for kids. We definitely need more books narrated like this one to add to our Harry Potter collection.

Great for Harry Potter fans

I enjoyed this book more than I expected. The best part was the commentary about each story which made fairy tales relevant to modern wizarding issues. Nice cast of voices.

blah

Glad this was a freebee.

Aweful audio book all told. Definitely not for kids. Kids would lose interest after the first couple of sentences.

Voices were just plain bad and often overcast by. the noise meant to be part of the story. Why have all the Reader's voices when they all sound alike. Dumbledore was TERRIBLE. Flat voice, obviously female attempting to be male.

I listened for the first chapter and it was a waste. Just a very bad production and story.

Useless....

How do members in the UK access this title?
Why is Audible offering no Help?
Why is Audible deleting people alerting them to the download issues?
Audible is even no longer accepting e-mails to their Customer Service e-mail address.

23rd Review :D

Of course I have read all the Harry Potter books several times and it was so nice to listen to all the back stories that make up even more of the this world. God bless you J. K. Rowling for making a difference in children lives around the world and though ‘Lumos’. Keep writing magic!

The Bard... JK Rowling

Sorry, but this was not too exciting for me.

JK Rowling is undoubtedly a very talented writer, however I personally feel that this is just another add on to the Hogwarts legacy. Sit on your laurels Ms Rowling, the Harry Potter books are weaving their magic to young and old and this was just superfluous.

That said, I am sure her undying fans will love it and have nothing said against the multimillionaire writer.

A good read but lacks Emma Watson.

This was a great audiobook that takes us back to the wizarding world of J.K Rowling. I really loved that they got the actors/actress who played Professor Flitwick, Luna Lovegood, Lucius Malfoy, Ginny Weasley (my favorite) to read the different chapters. The only thing I don't like and why I gave it four, not five stars, is they did not have the real Hermione Granger;Emma Watson, read the tales of the three brothers.

Unobtainable - Update Fixed!

I can review this book because it is in my library.
I cannot review this book because if I try to download it, I'm told it is not in my library.
I was really looking for an audiobook rather than a paradox.

I've no idea this problem is supposed to be fixed but I eventually just deleted the database (.db) file in my audible profile and let the program rebuild it. There's some weirdness but it works.

Disappointing

Based on the author's ability to capture a reader's attention, imagination and emotions I was very disappointed with this offering. I felt the Potter series characters references to it made me want to read it to discover the source of their enjoyment. That wasn't my experience, bland would be my way of describing it

short fairy tales for charity

the book is 3 or 4 fairy tales within the harry potter universe. it's blatantly a money raiser for jk rowlings charity so not too had of an idea. the stories themselves are shallow lacking the dark themes behind the classic fairytales. the references back to the modern wizard world are contradictory and tenuous. the last tale is the only decent one and its the one we all know from the hp books. great idea to raise some money, wish she'd dug a bit deeper with the tales.

Fantastic!!!

Fantastic wee book consisting of 4 short stories and then a "review" by Albus Dumbledore immediately following each story. I am a huge Potter fan so was unsure whether my expectations were going to be too high but no, J.K Rowling proving yet again how much of a queen she is.

I enjoyed each story but I mostly enjoyed the reviews voice by Jude Law. It almost felt as if I was in a Hogwarts classroom listening to a lecture from Dumbledore. And I love Jude Law.

Awesome work by all the narrators. Keeps it interesting with each change of story.

Fantastic bedtime stories & here you'll find them!

I enjoyed these short stories. Especially the notes by Dumbledore at the end of each story. Really good narration by the cast of actors from the movies; makes it feel that much more connected to the Harry Potter universe. These tales act like the perfect bedtime stories for fans of the wizarding world. Just wish there were more.

a nice book to tie everything together.

I thoroughly enjoyed this little listen. I like how the notes added by Dumbledore and JK Rowling were added into the reading. As I would of had little context to relate it too. Dumbledore notes with the book and what I'm guessing he gave Hermione in the deathly Hallows is excellent. defintley worth a read if your craving for more wizarding content.

Five fun short folktales!

short well-written folktales set in the Potterverse. It’s an odd sort of book. The tales are definitely aimed at children but the notes by Dumbledore commenting on each tale are written in more complex language with a more academic tone. I can’t imagine kids really getting much out of the notes, so I don’t really understand their inclusion. The cast of audiobook narrators is excellent.

Loved it!

This audiobook was so entertaining and wholesome, will bits of wit and humour that a really appreciated. It’s been on my list a while and I’m glad I finally got to listen to it. The little extra laws that expand the world of wizardry was perfect considering the audio time is very small compared to others. But just enough to get me through the house work . Perfect
