Publisher's summary

For years, like millions of other Americans, John Thomas Rourke had planned for what seemed inevitable — the destruction of civilization. There were various possible causes: global economic collapse, some uncontrollable pestilence, a world famine — or nuclear war.

And the rumbling signaling the coming of Total War was becoming increasingly strong as Rourke, ex-CIA Covert Operations Officer, weapons expert, and survival authority, made his last desperate gambit to save his estranged wife and two children before the button was pressed, the missile launched, the multi-megaton bombs loosed.

Here then is the story of the ultimate war, the final nuclear holocaust and the unrelenting quest of John Thomas Rourke as he begins his search across war-ravaged America, following every haunting clue, however fragmentary, to locate his missing family. There are Soviet occupation troops, lawless murderous brigands, and vast uncharted nuclear deserts to block his way. John Thomas Rourke has no option but to go on — he is The Survivalist.

Narrated by Cate Torre, Christopher Graybill, Colleen Delany, David Coyne, Dylan Lynch, James Konicek, James Lewis, Johan Dettweiler, Karen Carbone, Ken Jackson, Michael Replogle, Mort Shelby, Nanette Savard, richard Rohan, Ted Stoddard, Terence Aselford, Thomas Penny, Tim Carlin, MB Van Dom

Oldie but goodie lol

I read this entire series when it was first released. I read the first book when I was 26 years old LOL. I still have the complete set in paperback put away with many others. I never throw away a book. Thank God for kindle and later audible I would never have the room to store the number of books I have read. Though Mr. Ahern's series is now very dated with changes in firearms and the world now they can still entertain you. And now with audible I can lay in bed or ride in my truck and listen to my books. Graphic Audio is the best to listen to as they say a movie in your mind is so very true. There will never be a movie made that can compare to a book or your own imagination. And to have different people read the parts is much better than a single person attemtping to alter their voice or worst a computer robotic voice. Thanks for bring them back for all of us old farts to read again and remember.

Main character is a super hero!

The main character is a doctor, weapons expert, cia operator, prepper, super hero. There is no touch of an actual human response for the man. Nuclear war just happened the worlds on fire, I have a wife and two kids across the country that needs me but I’m going to chase down a biker gang that killed a bunch of plane crash victims. Not to mention I got two hours into the book and hit every prepper book cliché. Nazi bikers ravishing the world, packs of dogs hunting people and on and on. And this is less than a day after the bombs drop. It could have been a good book if the author just dialed it back. In books like this you can’t start with big problems like outlaw nazi bikers. You start small. Entitled people on the road you come in contact with. Or sick/wounded people. Then you build to outlaw bikers. If you start with big problems two hours into the book I expect the main character to fight aliens by hour 3. I will be returning this.

An 80s action move an audible

It’s a fun listen, like listening to a 1980s action movie. The story is a bit dated. Not a complaint. Anyone that Remembers this series should consider this. I got the bundle so feel good about the length of the book.the individual stories are short so continuing the series is questionable for me, but I try for long run times for my credits
