Publisher's Summary

What if you came home to find a stranger living inside your house? An "oustanding, ever-twisting, surprise-filled" psychological drama (Publishers Weekly), in the tradition of Shari Lapena and Liane Moriarty, from Edgar- and Thriller Award-nominated author Laura Benedict.

There's a stranger living in Kimber Hannon's house. He tells the police that he has every right to be there, and he has the paperwork to prove it. But Kimber definitely didn't invite this man to move in. He tells her that he knows something about her, and he wants everyone else to know it too.

"I was there. I saw what you did."

These words reveal a connection to Kimber's distant past, and dark secrets she'd long ago left buried. This trespasser isn't after anything as simple as her money or her charming Craftsman bungalow. He wants to move into her carefully orchestrated life - and destroy it.

Critic Reviews

"Benedict spins a story driven by deceit on the part of most of the principals, with tension increasing with the body count and the twists and turns that continue to the very end." (Booklist)

"The Stranger Inside is a twisty, compelling thriller. Laura Benedict takes hold of your throat and doesn't let go until the final page." (Jeff Abbott, New York Times best-selling author of The Three Beths)

"Outstanding.... Kimber's complicated personality and unusual family life drive the ever-twisting, surprise-filled plot.... [She] is the epitome of the unreliable narrator." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

Wow, DO.NOT.WASTE.CREDIT

I have over 150+ audiobooks and psychological suspense is my favorite. This is not that, it's the most ridiculous storyline ever and the narrator WHISPERS the entire time. I barely could hear her, it was like a train wreck--I tried to watch it play out. I mean I think the justice system moves slow but this story was not even suspenseful it was just stupid.

Different - in a good way

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and suspenseful book. It was different in that I sure hadn’t figured it all out until the end. That makes a good read in my opinion.

Good book and excellent narration

The idea was good but the plot moves slowly. I had a bit of trouble sticking with it. The major character was headstrong and not likable. Twists were good.

Annoyingly unremarkable.

Yet I will remark....

I don’t even have *that* high of a bar for audiobooks. I like mysteries and thrillers and I like to be entertained while I’m working at home. I’ve listened to a lot of them. I’m not a snob about them by any stretch. But?? This book is *absolutely* unextraordinary, boring and BLAND. MILQUETOAST. I kind of can’t believe it. I feel bad writing a review this bad but Audible won’t let me return it so I ended up listening to the whole thing hoping it would pay off in any kind of way but—NOPE. Nothing interesting happens plot wise. Not one single thing is surprising or creative. There is no real twist. Well—there are a couple at the end I guess but once revealed they’re of zero consequence. It’s so weird. The characters are all flat, obvious, and thinly drawn. The main character is not one bit likable or sympathetic. And I’m all for an anti-hero situation but this woman is just boring! Her personality is boring, her motivations are belong even her job is boring! She’s pretty much a jerk to everyone—more so out of lazy self-absorption than any deep psychological reason. Even the dog is 2-D. And I’m sorry to say the reader is also just not good. I know it’s a hard job and a definite skill set and some are better than others but she took a sophomoric, juvenile book and somehow made it even more so. Her voice for the little girl character was incredibly annoying in a community theater way. Just so hard to listen to. I SOOOOO wish i could return this. Avoid at all costs is my recommendation.

AWFUL! STAY AWAY!

This was the most convoluted, confusing and contrived story line I have ever heard. The authors does such a good at making the characters unlikable that. The plot is really thin. And completely unbelievable. I zoned out listening to Thi because it was that i captivating. I eventually started using as something to listen to at night to help me fall asleep. It worked.

Hmmmmmmm.....

A bit interesting at first but I kept listening thinking it would get better. Didn’t. I think I may return it because I can do better on this site. I wouldn’t bother. Disjointed

great narrator, story line meh

I bought this audiobook because I absolutely love the narrator. I try to listen to everything that Therese Plummer narrates. the story was okay it wasn't slow or boring or any such thing that would make you say that a story isn't good... it just lacked something in the climax. from the moment that she walked next door the storyline went downhill fast... I recommend listening to it if you run out of all of the things to listen to not too bad just not the best ever
