From master storyteller and New York Times-bestseller Tad Williams comes the second book in the landmark epic fantasy saga of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn.

Tad Williams introduced audiences to the incredible fantasy world of Osten Ard in his internationally bestselling series Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. The trilogy inspired a generation of modern fantasy writers, including George R.R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, and Christopher Paolini, and defined Tad Williams as one of the most important fantasy writers of our time.

BOOK TWO: STONE OF FAREWELL

It is a time of darkness, dread, and ultimate testing for the realm of Osten Ard, for the wild magic and terrifying minions of the undead Sithi ruler, Ineluki the Storm King, are spreading their seemingly undefeatable evil across the kingdom.

With the very land blighted by the power of Ineluki’s wrath, the tattered remnants of a once-proud human army flee in search of a last sanctuary and rallying point—the Stone of Farewell, a place shrouded in mystery and ancient sorrow.

An even as Prince Josua seeks to rally his scattered forces, Simon and the surviving members of the League of the Scroll are desperately struggling to discover the truth behind an almost-forgotten legend, which will take them from the fallen citadels of humans to the secret heartland of the Sithi—where near-immortals must at last decide whether to ally with the race of men in a final war against those of their own blood.

After the landmark Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy, the epic saga of Osten Ard continues with The Heart of What Was Lost. Then don’t miss the sequel trilogy, The Last King of Osten Ard, beginning with The Witchwood Crown!

Interesting story, but the plot was long and dry. Had to take many breaks to listen to all of it. I don't know if I can handle the last book.

too wordy

This is one of the best series I have ever read and listened too all the adventure and mystics that play out over these books I've been jumping for joy and moved to tears! Simon is a wonderful lead character and all the other people that come into play are amazing as well! Overall great book!!!

Tad Williams only peer is the master, Tolkien himself.
That said, Tad Williams' books and book series (all large) differ from one another dramatically. Some being similar to Memory Sorrow and Thorn. Others being epic cyber space sci-fi. I've read most of his books. Memory Sorrow and Thorn remains my favorite. It's the series I read over and over. It's a perfect polished gem.

Rich, engaging, world building master

I read this trilogy over 30 years ago and loved it. I reread it last year and loved it again and think this trilogy to be Tad's masterpiece. A must read for fantasy lovers.

One of my all time favorite trilogies

This book had all the high fantasy elements and they all fit well into this storyline.

All the standard elements

Well my favorite is LOTR. So that’s hard to beat. At first I thought this was a “typical” fantasy book: scullery boy runs from his castle in which ‘murder most foul and treachery too,’ has/is taking place. He meets a mysterious person who very helpfully doesn’t let Simon die of exposure and we’re off!
It’s so much better than any synopsis. Also, it’s really really long and well worth three credits especially as the final book of the “trilogy” was sold as two huge books, each th

Favorite Series this isn’t, but it’s a Favorite!!!

While some have said that the book meanders, and muddies the spoken performance, I find the voice acting impeccable, and the story enthralling. Multiple times I endured goosebumps upon realizing a certain part was coming up...

Terrific

Would you consider the audio edition of The Stone of Farewell to be better than the print version?

It may have been easier to have the print version to lookup the parts I wanted to re-read because I didn't get it all the first time through some parts.

What about Andrew Wincott’s performance did you like?

Andrew Wincott's performance is stellar. Hard to go beyond that. He's awesome.

Any additional comments?

The story is deep and has many moving parts. Listening to this audio book required me to pay much closer attention. There were times the author switched voice and I had to go back and re-listen because I didn't catch the switch. That aside, its a good story with a great performance.

Deep. Great performance.
