Story
Since he first began the Shannara saga in 1977, Terry Brooks has had a clear idea of how the series should end, and now that moment is at hand. As the Four Lands reels under the Skaar invasion - spearheaded by a warlike people determined to make this land their own - our heroes must decide what they will risk to save the integrity of their home. Even as one group remains to defend the Four Lands, another is undertaking a perilous journey across the sea to the Skaar homeland, carrying with them a new piece of technology that could change the face of the world forever.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Publisher's Summary
New York Times best seller
After The Black Elfstone and The Skaar Invasion comes the penultimate volume in the Fall of Shannara, a saga more than four decades in the making.
The Skaar have arrived in the Four Lands, determined to stop at nothing less than all-out conquest. They badly need a new home, but peaceful coexistence is not a concept they have ever understood. An advance force under the command of the mercurial princess Ajin has already established a foothold, but now, the full Skaar army is on the march - and woe betide any who stand in its way.
But perhaps the Skaar victory is not quite the foregone conclusion everyone assumes. The Druid Drisker Arc has freed both himself and Paranor from their involuntary exile. Drisker’s student, Tarsha Kaynin, has been reunited with Dar, chief defender of what is left of the Druid order, and is learning to control her powerful wishsong magic. If they can only survive Tarsha’s brother, Tavo, and the Druid who betrayed Drisker Arc, they might stand a chance of defeating the Skaar.
But that is a very big if...as Tavo now carries the Stiehl - one of the most powerful weapons in all the Four Lands - and is hell-bent on taking his revenge on everyone he feels has wronged him.

Needless cliffhanger
Enjoyed this story until the last 10 minutes. Cliffhanger after cliffhanger and made protagonists to look like utter idiots. Whether true or not we have to wait to find out? Poor choice to end this book. I fully expected Grianne to step out at the end and... no. <Sigh> No feeling of satisfaction as a reader at the end.

Terry brooks
He is one of my all time favorite authors. Last book I read & listened to was the Stiehl Assassin, the fall of Shannara, book 3., The only bummer is book4 cant be obtained until October. I'm glad I've read all his books. This is the best way to re-listen to keep download& re-listen whenever I desire. Audible makes this process the easiest I've ever experienced. So ty for making my experience one of ease. Don't know how happy I am with this especially since I'm no were near tech savvy by any stretch of the word. The only thing I have hard time with is downloading them to my devices. Having said that I'd still rate Audible 5 stars because it could be me that is doing something wrong with the downloading them part. Odds is it is me so I can't blame anyone but me for that.<3

Good read Ben. Love this series, but this one was my least favorite. I miss the days when Druids kicked ass. I thought this book was the final, but yet another to be continued book. I like big macs, so keep the sludge factory alive. Hopefully the next one will be fresh.

Terry is mailing in his ending
Terry Brooks has been an author I enjoyed since my youth, but this series is really just ok. I know what to expect from a Brooks book, but there's almost no suspense, no character development (if most of them died I wouldn't be upset which means I have no investment in any of them), and the plot is going nowhere fast. The third person omniscient view is used poorly here which leads to knowing when something will fail or succeed before it happens.

A sad cop out
I would give this book the highest marks, because I love Terry, but the sad cop out in storytelling is very sad. (Spoilers ahead) Terry’s decision to have a Druid somehow able to create the liquid night potion used to send Grianne to the forbidding (obtained and created by a demon from within the forbidding, and so impossible to learn how it was made) is a very sad departure from his normally excellent storytelling.
