An inspiring tale...

We are living in trying times, in a complicated world that is often confusing and hard to navigate for many. This kind of story is more than just a fantasy novel, it is a symbol of vision, leadership and moral purpose. It is also much awaited backstory for those whose minds have ever been immersed in the lore of Shannara. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

In the beginning…

As a long time follower of the Shannara stories I was instantly drawn into this story. Familiar places and objects were like old friends. I look forward to the next origin tale.

It was just good, but not a waste of time or money.

Good. But it was rushed. Not his best work. Gave an overall 4 stars out of respect. It wasn’t bad. Just not great. Narrator was excellent. Read or listen and decide for yourself. I think most will agree…or they won’t. No matter to me. If you love Shannara, then buy it. It would be nice to have schematics for the keep though.

Added so much to the story.

I really wish it didn’t take so long for the next book to come out.

Was this meant for teens?

I have much admiration and respect for TB. I’ll support all Shannara books but this one seemed rushed and juvenile. Galliphile was supposed to be the GOAT Druid and he comes off as a simo for his wife who btw seems to do all his thinking for him. It was mushy and not very violent. Short explanations and not much detail. This book could have been great if it was written in the same manner as the others. Hopefully the next book has more substance and strength. I feel the main character was a bit of a simp with an immature way about him. Scott Brick was the best narrator of this entire series but this one wasn’t bad. Glad you switched from SV though. Overall not a bad filler book and it did offer some lore exploration which was good. I also like that you introduced a new antagonist too. Keep up the good work T we’ll be waiting.

the building and naming of Paranor.

I was 14 when I read The sword of Shanara as my first fantasy novel and it set the tone of what books I would grow to enjoy. I have all of the Shanara series in print (3 in Russian) and audio. I'm so excited to see more books and adventures coming. Galaphile is a more than welcome taste of his world building in some of the earlier years. I van see where the next 2 books can take us and can't wait!

still keeping me enthralled in the shannara series! I've read and reread them so many times through my life and never get tired of the adventures and horrifying thrills that always has me holding my breath, crying, or feeling heart pounding anticipation. can't wait for the next book! Terry is retiring with aplomb!

Brooks undoubtedly the Master

Terry, once again provides a strong story with characters dancing through the pages. Looking forward to the middle and end of the series.

A good story of how it all began

A good story line, a weak narrator. Character development good but not great. Not one of Brooks best but worth the listen. Hope the 2nd in the series is better.
