And with the help of his partners - a swordsman with the most powerful magic sword in the world but no magical ability of his own, and a demonseed who can step through shadows and punch through walls - he’s going to put his plan into effect. Story
They say family always sticks together, but when you're your dad's only lifeline and the whole world - humans, dragons, and gods - wants you dead, "family bonding" takes on a whole new meaning. My name is Opal Yong-ae, and I'm in way over my head. I thought getting rid of my dad's bad luck curse would put things back to normal. Instead, I'm stuck playing caretaker to the Great Dragon of Korea. That wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn't such a jerk, or if every dragon on the planet wasn't out to kill him, or if he was my only problem.

The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

Story
Joe takes his first step into exile, and is promptly unable to breathe. This new Zone has a higher concentration of power, magnitudes denser. His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns. The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Not choosing a side is the same as declaring both to be your personal enemy. Though he is resistant, Joe reluctantly decides to go with the group he thinks will help him grow the most.

Publisher's Summary
With the pressure on after his success in Gaol, Eli Monpress, professional thief and degenerate, decides it’s time to lie low for a bit. Taking up residence in a tiny seaside village, Eli and his companions seize the chance for some fun and relaxation.
Nico, however, is finding it a bit hard. Plagued by a demon’s voice in her head and feeling powerless, she only sees herself as a burden. Everyone’s holiday comes to an untimely close, though, when Pele arrives to beg Eli’s help for finding her missing father.
But there are larger plans afoot than even Eli can see, and the real danger, and the solution, may lie with one of his own and her forgotten past.
If only Nico could remember whose side she’s on.

I wish the next one was offered as an audiobook
The fourth in the series is out but not being offered in audiobook form. I love the characters in this series. Eli sort of takes a backseat in this installment. This book is primarily about Nico and her struggle with the demon seed and herself. You do learn a bit more about Eli's past. This is a great series and I hope that Audible will soon have the 4th and the upcoming 5th book to offer members in the near future.

Highly Entertaining!
Wow, what an amazingly entertaining book...and series. I can't believe more people haven't read this yet or commented on it. Wonderful set up of witty characters with obvious hints about a much bigger plot and family "connections" in the future. Fantastic banter between characters, nice depth to the world she has created. What's really interesting is that, because all objects (people, trees, rocks, etc) have "spirits" in her universe, they all have the potential to contibute dialogue. All in all just a great fun read on top of solid characters, engrossing plot, and a well thought out magic system. Can't wait for the next book!

Fun series - my new favorite reader!
Ok, I can not tell you how much I love Luke Daniel's performances. I think he has taken over the slot of my favorite reader! If you have not listened to the Iron Druid Chronicles start now. That is a fantastically fun series!
Audible - where is the rest of this series? There appear to be three more books available. Please add them ASAP!!!
So far this series is priced less than a full credit. If you haven't tried it - do! It's fun, with a lot of humor, action, and a great plot line. I am going to be really disappointed if I have to read the rest of the series myself!

I Had A Hard Time Finishing This One...
This book is not bad, but it is so different from The Spirit Thief that I had a hard time finishing it. I've had similar issues with other authors, and I think I understand why. Clearly the author has a certain epic tale in mind, and again it's not bad... But, where I was laughing and enjoying the ride in The Spirit Thief, and even had fun with The Spirit Rebellion, I found this book too stressful and a bit too predictable, all at the same time. It's like sitting down to watch a comedy and getting a tragedy instead. Both comedy and tragedies can be good, but when you're hoping and expecting one, and then get the other, it can leave one feeling unsatisfied.
I've already purchased the whole series and plan to finish it, but first I think I need to go read (or listen to) some Discworld or something.
This book is more like a Dresden Files than Discworld, where The Spirit Thief was kinda like a Discworld book to me.
