The Sound of What Comes Next is a collection of poetry and two short stories by poet Lawrence C. Mays. This book serves at book number seven in Lawrence's 18-year writing career. The poetry addresses several topics including love, aging, body image, self-love, adolescence, and emptiness to name a few. This body of work also includes two short stories: "Night Angel" and "So Quiet".
"Night Angel" is about Michael Mendez, a witness to horrific hit and run. He's faced with a not so simple choice. Call the police and tell what he's seen or play the fool and save the skin of a familiar face. Will he save the Night Angel?
"So Quiet" is a short story about the not so routine night for four-year-old Robbie. What starts off as a normal restless night turns into a silent night of confusion. Not his working mother nor his sickly father can stop the silence from fading out his night.
