New York Times
bestselling author David Duchovny reimagines the Irish mythological figure of Emer in Miss Subways, a darkly comic fantasy love story set in New York City.

Emer is just a woman living in New York City who takes the subway, buys ice cream from the bodega on the corner, has writerly aspirations, and lives with her boyfriend, Con. But is this life she lives the only path she’s on? Taking inspiration from the myth of Emer and Cuchulain and featuring an all-star cast of mythical figures from all over the world, David Duchovny’s darkly funny fantasy audiobook Miss Subways is one woman’s trippy, mystical journey down parallel tracks of time and love. On the way, Emer will battle natural and supernatural forces to find her true voice, power, and destiny.

A fairy tale of love lost and regained, Miss Subways is also a love letter to the city that enchants us all: New York.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"As David Sedaris is to his essays in audio format, so is David Duchovny to his fiction. Neither author's works should ever be voiced by anyone but themselves, or crucial interpretations, inflections, and emotions would be lost. ...this treasured, crumpled love letter to a fantasy other-world of New York City is an essential purchase for libraries serving listeners who favor witty word play and realistically complex characters and enjoy finding the absurdity in daily life." -Booklist, Starred Review

I may be in love with the book in the same way I am in love with magic, wishes and good conversations, in the same way that I am in love with the absurd and the strange, in the same way I am in love with love and courtship and friendship and the everafter, in the same way I am in love with life itself.

In this strange fairytale of myth and legend. We meet Emer and Con, two people who are perfect for each other and destined to be together. On the journey, there's a crow and a Celtic fairy little person and Duchovny addresses what it means to be a teacher, a learner, a spiritual person, a lover, a daughter, a father and, finally, what it means to live our lives to the fullest, the way that our lives are supposed to be lived.

If you've ever been to NYC, I promise you won't look at it the same way again.

I'd also suggest reading these other books: Smythology, Infinite Jest and American Gods. They are all wonderfully strange and peculiar tales of living and dying and loving and losing. They, like this book, will play with your interpretation of reality and your ideas and definitions of what makes us human. They will make you laugh and cry and gaffah.

I enjoyed this journey.

It was a joy to listen to. A modern mythology of sorts. Certainly not traditional

Brilliant

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of writing. I hadn't thought of Duchovny as a writer - just as Mulder all these years. The writing was fantastic - the descriptives made it so that I could picture what he was describing, and the turn of phrase often made me laugh out loud which produced some curious glances from my coworkers. Definitely worth the read! Now I want to read all his books!

David Duchovny in my ear for 6+ hours?

I had no idea that David Duchovny was a writer until a friend posted an article by him. Since the pandemic started, I've been into audiobooks so I can do other things with my hands - crafts, mindless games, etc - and I love both Duchovny and Leoni as actors so I decided to buy the book. As a writer myself, I wasn't really expecting a literary novel so imagine my surprise when this was exactly that. Duchovny reads a tad too fast for what this is and there is so much to ingest and think about - I need a physical copy. Nice to know Duchovny isn't simply beautiful and now I must purchase the other books (except the one with baseball - I just hate sports) and also take out my mythology books and take a look. I may want to teach this at some point so I'm going to need the physical copy. I have far too many books and I've been investing in a digital library - but I need a physical copy if I'm going to teach it - and I think I'd teach this one for craft... the plot isn't nonlinear as much as it is multilinear - read the book. It'll make sense.

Beautifully crafted novel
