'Only once in his life had Sean met a man whose strength matched his own - and now, again, they were pitted against each other....'

Sean Courtney, impulsive adventurer of When the Lion Feeds, returns from the wilderness a rich man - until he is robbed by the Boers of his wagons, his gold and the girl he loves. Great Story! Great Narrator!

The story was great - a little uncomfortable to listen to the elephant poaching parts - other than that it was an exciting read (listen)! The narrator: Sean Barrett was AMAZING and made the listen really pleasurable!

Tremendous story, beautiful narration

This is by far my favorite series of historical fiction. The sweep, characters, and writing take me away to the Continent every time I listen.

Huge book great series touched me deeply.

Although Wilbur Smith holds the pinnacle of my authors list, and this series is among my favorite, this book touched me most deeply. its typical in depth descriptions of era, characters and places paint a wonderful mental image, but it departure from flawless heros to a trouble family meant a great deal to me. It offers a portrayal of how complex life can be. It is a huge complex novel covering many years and characters, requiring me to read and listen several time... each being a joy.

Heart wrenching... I see you Mr Smith

During that time this was South Africa so cruel and yet so stunning. Not for the feint hearted but so powerful a story, I was able to bear the violence.

Courtney pleases once again

I have struggled to find a series of books with which I felt eager to return to time and again but at last I have found it. Bought immediately following the conclusion of When the Lion Feeds, The Sound PF Thunder picks up where it left off with Sean Courtney. The performance of this book coupled with the writing makes this essential listening. And now to book 3....

The sound of Thunder

Amazing book, highly recommended. This was an excellent sequel to A Lion Feeds, smooth flowing and without repetition. An absorbing story that draws you in from the beginning with characters that you love and hate as if you're actually there with them. Great Job!

Im into it

Starting "When the lion feeds" while on holiday in South Africa I was completely captured into the saga of Sean Courtney.
Sean Barrett is a magnificent narrator who inspired me to complete "the Sound of Thunder" and I can't wait to start this next chapter. What a tale!

Fully engrossing.

The 2nd full novel I read following When the Lion Feeds as a teenager has lost nothing with subsequent rereading over the years.
And now to have it on AudioBook narrated so well as I’m busy around the house or workshop is just a new level of satisfaction.
And Wilbur Smith, well what can you say about on of the greatest authors I’ve had the pleasure of reading. His stories play out like a movie in my minds eye, he writes it, I read it & I see it.
