Publisher's summary

Blessed or cursed with a connection to the souls of others, Sloan Jordan can see the best in people...and the worst. With nothing more than a glance at a photograph, she can judge the living from the dead and the good souls from the evil ones. For 27 years she's kept her ability a secret, but 11 young women have been murdered in the mountains of North Carolina, and Sloan may be the only hope of finding their killer. She has just agreed to help Detective Nathan McNamara with the case when a stranger - who is as alluring as he is terrifying - shows up at her doorstep with a dark past and another puzzling mystery: She can't see his soul at all. Now Sloan is on the hunt for a deadly psychopath with two irresistible men. One of them would die for her, and the other would kill to keep her safe.

I don't know

I'm not sold on this book yet. 1. I don't like love triangles. They are an unnecessary way to add drama to the story and make women look stupid. 2. The story drags too much because of the romantic angle and Sloan trying to figure out who and what she is. 3. The plot and character development is superficial. 4. The ending wraps up to easy. The mystery has been going on for years and all of a sudden it takes a few weeks to solve. I don't think I'll be getting the next one.

Wonderful!

Loved the Book. The narrator Brittany was fantastic. I actually looked for more books narrated by her as she kept my interest and wasn't monotone or boring. The book was great...great mystery and loved the characters. I recommend.

Really good book. Excellent narration.

What a surprise this book was. I really only got it because Brittany Pressley was narrating it and the description sounded okay. Well, it was actually a very good book and very entertaining. I enjoyed every bit of it. What a treat!

The story line and plot were very interesting. The characters are great. I really like Nathan and Warren a lot as well as Sloan. Even though this book is written in the first person it's not full of filler random internal thoughts. That is treat too. There is lots of great dialogue between all the characters and its not just Sloan's random thoughts. I do like that they all talk to each other and don't keep a bunch of secrets. The story is very well written, flows nicely and is easy to follow along.

There is sex but it not at all descriptive and I am okay with that. Sex not taking over a story is a bonus, as long as the chemistry, attraction and knowledge that the sex is happening is good with me.

I do recommend this book and the series so far.

As for the narration, it is amazing, I am a huge fan of Brittany Pressley she does such a great job on all the voices especially the male voices and everyone gets their own distinct voice. She has great reading voice and reads with emotion. Love her narrations!

The Soul Summoner –– Elicia Hyder

Where does The Soul Summoner rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I definitely love Brittany Pressley's voice, and I think she perfectly voiced Sloan and Co. I definitely rank her in my top five favorite narrators!

What did you like best about this story?

I love the quips and quirks (the comedic relief) that the characters brought. I've never been a love triangle type, but she makes it funny, tension-y, and emotional all in the course of one book! I literally cried at some point (both lol and sad moments)! XD

Which character – as performed by Brittany Pressley – was your favorite?

Sloan. Definitely. But second comes Warren. She makes him have this husky rasp or whatever and definitely makes it work well for his character. I always imagined Warren as a laxish, suave sounding dude! XD

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both laugh and cried! (Having read the three books out so far March 2017, "The Siren," Elicia's next book in the series is my favorite! You should totes check that out if you are intrigued by this one.

Any additional comments?

This has a complete ending and beginning and can be read like a stand-alone. Therefore, there is NO cliffhanger!

Never experienced Elicia Hyders work before

I reviewed this after completing the series. The book was amazing. Fast paced supernatural thriller. The narrator did an amazing job and the narratives was never flat!

Great start to a new series

This book has everything, suspense, romance, humor and great characters. The book is so well written and the story flows so well that you will not want to stop listening. Part of this is due to the excellent narration done by Brittany Pressley. Looking forward to starting book 2.

Teenage Creepiness

The premise seemed interesting. But the storyline with a love triangle between the very immature Sloan, the Detective Nate and evil Warren is just creepy. I know a lot of people liked this book. I just don’t get why. Brittany Pressley does her usual marvellous performance but she cannot save it.

Don't waste your time!

The "soul summoning" or paranormal aspects of this story are the most realistic. I mostly found myself laughing at how genuinely stupid and unbelievable most of the relationships were, personal and professional. Safe to say I will not be spending more time with these characters or this writer. Thank God Brittany Pressley is such a good narrator or it would have been a DNF.

Performance is the best part

Authors writing stories with heavy police involvement should learn something about how police operate. There were little things that bumped my suspension of disbelief practically from page one. But when the so-called interrogation expert was shocked and amazing that empathizing and befriending a suspect got information, I was done.

Characters are not realistic, main plot takes too long to be introduced, and author doesn't know what she is writing about.

Performance is good, and if you've got better suspension of disbelief than I do, you might enjoy it. But if you like your fiction to make sense, pass on by.

A great paranormal suspense

What did you love best about The Soul Summoner?

I love the characters especially Sloan and Nathan.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sloan is my favorite character because even though she has this gift she has a great sense of humor and love for her friends and family.

What about Brittany Pressley’s performance did you like?

Loved Brittany's voice!!! She did a great job of distinguishing between characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book though quite serious has a ton of humor in it. It makes me want to read book 2.

Any additional comments?

I read this book first and loved it. So I thought I would try the audio. Loved it.

It started well

Well, it started quite well, but somehow the further it went the more I disliked the FL who just became more and more self- centred. Or maybe I only started to notice it more as the story was dragging on? Not sure. In any case, everything happening around her had to be about her. It became all me, me, me! I am all for loving oneself, but this went too far. Anywho, I do not care enough for any of the characters to want to know what happens next. Also, is the heroine pro-death sentence or did I misunderstood? This book will not age well...

A great story!

I loved this book! Such great twists and chemistry between the characters. Brittany Pressley does a great job narrating the female characters. A little more practice with the male ones is needed though. I had trouble at times distinguishing who was who.
But overall fantastic! I’m can’t wait to get started on book 2.

***The Soul Summoner***

My first Elicia Hyder book, an unexped treasure i didnt think it would be this good but im wrong, its an incredible i love Sloan and her gifts is amazing. The only thing that makes me sad is why on earth this isnt a reverse harem so Nathan can be with Sloan as well? its not fair. Warren is awesome with his gifts as well but Nate met Sloan first. anyway i do hope that Nate wont get hurt too much in the end, i dislike love triangles. Brittany Pressley's narrative is excellent, she portrays the characters really well and she is believable.
