Oliver Lawe's biggest concern at the start of Monday was to stave off boredom while he was on rotation home. That changed when the base exploded with action when martial law was declared. When a figure throwing magic and monsters appeared, Oliver knew they weren't prepared at all. By a series of bizarre events, Oliver somehow managed to survive the onslaught that ripped his ranks apart, but only at a great cost.

Author needs to do more research

I can't get past the fact that the author keeps having the characters saluting NCOs, wearing full battle rattle inside a tank, or smoking in a motorpool.
