Acerca de esta escucha

Sky’s small town turns absolutely claustrophobic when his secret promposal plans get leaked to the entire school in this witty, “earnest, heartfelt” (Becky Albertalli, New York Times best-selling author), and ultimately hopeful debut novel for fans of What if it’s Us? and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Sky Baker may be openly gay, but in his small, insular town, making sure he was invisible has always been easier than being himself. Determined not to let anything ruin his senior year, Sky decides to make a splash at his high school’s annual beach bum party by asking his crush, Ali, to prom - and he has thirty days to do it.

What better way to start living loud and proud than by pulling off the gayest promposal Rock Ledge, Michigan, has ever seen?

Then, Sky’s plans are leaked by an anonymous hacker in a deeply homophobic e-blast that quickly goes viral. He’s fully prepared to drop out and skip town altogether - until his classmates give him a reason to fight back by turning his thirty-day promposal countdown into a school-wide hunt to expose the e-blast perpetrator.

But what happens at the end of the thirty days? Will Sky get to keep his hard-won visibility? Or will his small-town blues stop him from being his true self?

Robbie Couch knocked it out of the park with this one. I couldn’t get enough of Sky Blues and listened in just a short couple of sittings. The imagery Couch put on paper is vivid and contemporary. I MAY have cried a few times (where’s MY promposal, dammit?!) but all happy tears. Bravo!

Touching, fun and real

It was a great read! However I feel like having one more chapter would had made it perfect. Ending the story on the Prom would have made it so much better. But still a great book overall 9.9/10

Absolutely loved everything about this book. Such a good book. Makes me wish I was more open with my friends back in HS.

Soooo good. If you enjoy teen angst and coming-of-age stories, you will absolutely love Sky Blues. Listen to it immediately. Also, Michael Couch remains undefeated when it comes to his narration skills.

This is a great modern coming out story. It shows the progress made in our society but also shows how much more needs to be done. I loved Sky and all his friends, I felt Sky's character development was relatable and genuine. I wanted more at the end, like an epilogue to see where everyone landed after graduation. This is a must read for all.

A Great Listen

There is a ton of stereotyping in this book, regarding "being a gay male" but it's contextual. Part of the main theme is the main character learning to accept himself and allowing himself to be... well, himself. The main character has excessive inner dialog (in my opinion) but it was a decent story, if a tad redundant. Cutest at the end.

Coming of age story...

Sky is like many of the thousands of gay high school kids trying to survive the toughest years of their lives. Not that the non-gay kids have it much better. Anything other than lots of money or amazing sports skills is guaranteed to be bullied and harassed at every opportunity. Even the school leaders and popular kids have it rough in high school. College is usually a bit less traumatic, but only if you can qualify for the top schools.

He has some very good friends that save him when he gets kicked out of his house when he reveals that he is gay. Small towns are tough places to be different and usually do not have homeless people living on the streets or good paying jobs to be able to survive. Sky's father died when he was very young in a car accident that left Sky with burn scars on his chest.

Sky's senior year has lots of challenges that help him discover that he can overcome his fears and be the better man and provide good leadership to help other students overcome prejudice and hatred. He also learns more about his family and some of his father's history as he turns 18 and graduates.

The blues are bluer up here in the Sky!

The Sky Blues was an interesting read. I struggled to like the main character for 60% of the book, but grew to like them in the last 40%. The supporting characters though — very engaging and I lovable! Overall though, it was a good read once the story got going several chapters in. The performance was nice as well.

Love the supporting characters!
