Bath, England, 1891. Mr. James Harding was a lot of things - businessman, well-to-do, probable scoundrel - but a drinker he most assuredly was not. Great book, terrible narration

I was excited to listen to the second in this series and not upset that they were changing the narrator as the first one mispronounced some British English words. This one, however, was terrible. She makes even simple dialogue sound like a bad tv movie, overacted and over-enunciated. It was distracting and disappointing bc the book itself is a great second installment that’s paced well. Unlike the first one, I didn’t guess the plot twists or the true villain before the end. I see that this woman is the narrator for the third in the series as well. I suppose I will have to muddle through with her again bc I work FT and have 4 kids and can only find time to read in the car as I’m driving places. If you can, I advise you to get the paper versions and perhaps pick back up with the audible series when the narrator changes again on book 4. I hope that narrator is better bc this woman’s take on the characters is truly bad.
