Publisher's summary

Little remained of the world...and those that were left must live with The Terror. Was there hope in Oregon?

At 17-years old, Colleen has never known love except from her mother. Life on the dying earth was a struggle for survival, and then it got worse. Her vision began to fail. Should they listen to the rumors?

The isolated life in North Texas was grim.

They heard about a cure.

With some food, an old handgun, a few knives, and a dog named Jackson, they head out. For Colleen, it’s a vast empty world, but there were dangers. She learned to fight when she was little but staying alive on the road would take more than that. Keeping one’s head was the real challenge.

Who could they trust?

You’ll love this dystopian thriller, because everyone on the road isn’t who they seem, and for Colleen and her mother, the nightmare has just begun.

Get it now.

Fantastic Narrator, great twist

I have to admit it stars slow bit the narrator is fantastic but once the story ramps up it's hold your breath until the end.

An original post-apocalyptic quest told well

The Shifting is an apocalyptic novel that starts out in Texas after something horrific (no spoilers!) has happened. The city names are familiar, so the locations are all legit. We follow a mom, her daughter, and their dog on a journey that gets progressively wilder and more intense. With some shocking plot twists (Breaking Bad level!), this is quite a ride and I really liked the ending. I especially liked how this story had a beginning, middle and end -- no cliffhanger here like a lot of series do. I think the next book is going to be pretty wild.

As for the narrator, she was especially good here because her tone and delivery match how the character evolves in the paperback (I bought both).

Slow, Slow, Slow

This book was very slow moving and extremely detailed. If that is what you are looking for, it is the book for you. Otherwise, you're going to struggle to finish it
