A widow and mother, she has spent the previous two decades on her White husband's farm, finding solace in her garden even as the farm is threatened first by drought and then by a predatory chemical company. Now, grieving, Rosalie begins to confront the past, on a search for family, identity, and a community where she can finally belong. In the process, she learns what it means to be descended from women with souls of iron-women who have protected their families, their traditions, and a precious cache of seeds through generations of hardship and loss, through war and the insidious trauma of boarding schools.

Weaving together the voices of four women, The Seed Keeper is a beautifully told story of reawakening, of remembering our original relationship to the seeds and, through them, to our ancestors.

This is a powerful story of a culture we have nearly lost. I couldn't stop reading. It is a story we all can absorb, and if we do, it can change our lives and culture.

I’m a relatively recent transplant to southern MN, and I keep learning things about myself by listening to Dakota stories. This one hits in uncomfortable places within my heart, in the best way possible. It’s a story of constant struggle and resilience, families and clashes of cultures, home and yearning. Thank you, Diane Wilson, for an eye opening account.

A fantastic story well told

The story spans many generations and speaks to the generational havoc the People of North America suffer due to the misguided beliefs of those who invaded. I have wondered my whole life why those first colonists didn't learn the ways of the people already here. I wish with all my heart and soul that we all were living lives centered on the beliefs The People. This is a fabulous story and the performance is fantastic.
