Publisher's summary

It's 1665. Silas is killing plague victims for fun; the ready supply of victims means that he can satiate his desires easily. In 2015, at the Crossrail dig in London, two bodies are found, just as a spate of murders takes place. As the police rush to put together the links between the two, the modern-day serial-killer fights to stay ahead of them enough to kill again. DI Mark Fairgreaves and his team must work together to put together the pieces before they lose one of their own.

An Excellent First Novel

‘The Searcher’ is the first book from a very talented new author, Steve Edwardes and the audiobook version was released in July. It is performed by a great narrator; David Thorpe. A part mystery, part Police Procedural, The Searcher will stay with you long after the last word.

I started listening to it with the intention of just checking it out for a few minutes, but I liked it so much that I was forced to stop only when my wife was ringing the doorbell three hours later! The story is well written; the action moves between 1665 and 2015. The characters are well developed and the narrator is great!

In 1665 a man kills for his own pleasure, hiding in plain sight, as a plague decimates the population of Great Britain and nobody suspects him. In 2015 a criminal is hunting and killing individuals, but the police have no clue to the motive. There are murders, mysteries, criminals in both time periods and those looking to stop them.

The story is seen through the eyes of those involved, a Detective Inspector, a young Archaeologist, a few criminals and their unsuspecting prey. Easy to follow, filled with interesting information, driven by a solid plot and populated with colourful characters, ‘The Searcher’ is a great first novel from an author who I'll keep an eye out for in the future.

‘The Searcher’ is brought to life in audiobook format by David Thorpe, a great actor, voice over artist and narrator, who has recorded more than 400 audiobooks and appeared in a lot of plays for BBC.

David makes all the characters spring to life in the listeners mind with different voices and accents, enriching the narrative experience! He reads with enthusiasm, he acts all the parts, he is very good at this and ‘The Searcher’ is a more immersive and better audiobook thanks to his great performance.

If you like mysteries and Police Procedurals, you'll enjoy ‘The Searcher’ for sure!
