Publisher's summary

This unique "fusion of science and the physical history" traces the story of the Scots through their DNA (Sunday Herald).

An almost limitless archive of our history lies hidden inside our bodies, and this book traces the ancient story of Scotland from that scientific viewpoint. The mushrooming of genetic studies, of DNA analysis, is rewriting history in spectacular fashion.

In Scotland: A Genetic Journey, Alistair Moffat explores the history that is printed on our genes, and in a remarkable new approach, uncovers the detail of where Scots are from, where they have journeyed, and who they are - and in so doing, vividly colors in a DNA map of Scotland.

Scottish genetics

Very good short history of Scottish genetics. There is some discussion of haplogroups but there is more about genetics in the medieval period than ancient periods…. But still a great resource.

Fascinating book about the origins of Scotland and the ancestors of the people that currently make it up.Touches on ancient cultures and languages and how they evolved. The Narrator is excellent.

Very informative!

I am a very big fan of the range of information in this book, it explains a lot more than just the history, and someone like myself who doesn't know much about much, it's very helpful and SUPER interesting! I also love the approach at the beginning talking a lot about archaeology as that's a field I am also interested in. I also love the in depth explanations of surnames and the like, fascinating stuff!!

Complete dna of the Scots

Very compressive history and scientific DNA explanation of the history of the Scots. I am 12% Scot and had red hair so it was interesting to hear about the lineage of how I got the red hair.

The author and narrator are amazing.

Very helpful with getting an understanding haplogroups and migrations of Scottish and neighbors. Myself found to have a Scottish y haplogroup have i have been researching as much as i can and this was one of the best recent literature on this right now. Subsequently i dont feel as much in the weeds when at my haplogroup project page. Thank you. Narrator could read the phone book and call it a meditation exercise.
