My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart, and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying "I do" to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. Story
Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively redesigned and renovated - a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cozily on the sofa, watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets. Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.

The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Publisher's summary
When a dream trip becomes your worst nightmare...
You’ve been excited about this getaway for months–at last, a chance to reconnect with your husband at a secluded island resort. But when he unexpectedly calls you from the beach, you hear the urgency in his voice. Something is very wrong.
The beautiful waitress from the restaurant last night has been found lying dead in the sand. And the police want to question your husband about it.
Sure, you saw him glance at her over dinner a few times, but you know he didn’t have anything to do with the poor girl’s death. So why is he asking you to lie to the police that he was with you all night? And where did he go in those missing hours?
When he returns to your beautiful sea-view suite, things get heated and he accuses you of being jealous, just like he always does. Yes, the waitress was overly flirtatious with your husband, but you didn’t actually wish her any harm. Not really.
Can you trust the man you married...or are you the one who can’t be trusted?
Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Hunting Party, and The Girl on the Train.

Depressing, and Unlike able Characters
I thought this story had promise but I did not like any of the characters and found it depressing. It was way to long and I read the reviews that said it was a surprise ending. I should have cut my losses and returned the audiobook. Narrator also did not change her voice at all and female characters all sounded the same. Save your credit unless you want a depressing look at 3 miserable marriages with very flawed people.

Implausable
I did not find this story at all hard to follow, it was just so implausible. Author was going for an Agatha Christie type vibe, but missed the mark. We are to believe that Every Woman on this Resort thinks their husband is a murderer. I can't say more without giving something away. There is some redemption with the ending, however even that is a stretch.
It was well written and well read, just unbelievable.
Eye-rolling.

stick with it
You need a good little bit to start this book where you don't have to start and stop. If you do listen a little, then stop, then listen some more, you will not get the characters straight. After you do get the couples figured out it is smooth sailing from there. Great little mystery, kept me entertained, and kept me guessing at who the "bad" guy was.

Very, Very Good
Although certain aspects of this novel are little improbable, if you practice suspension of disbelief and allow yourself to be a carried away, you’ll be in for quite a suspenseful and fun read.
The narration is exceptional, the story is unique, and I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish.
It also surprised me, which is a rare treat.
I liked the characters, was mesmerized by the location and found the interplay between the three couples to be very entertaining.
A definite yes.

Wow
This story had some really eye opening experiences. It was so amazing how the characters shared their lives with each other during a difficult time while on vacation. There were some really sad moments too. I almost cried listening to this story unfold. But for some people the circumstances of this story is their real life reality that they’ve lived through and survived.

I would have preferred a commentator who spoke English without an accent. Her voice was not a pleasant tone to listen to but I loved the story. It would be better to have a choice of accents of the reader.

From complex to confusion…
Sue Watson and Tamsin Kennard again join forces to bring forth this suspenseful murder thriller. Featuring several couples on a vacation island, we learn about their very different pasts, secrets, troubles and chaos ensues. Kennard, as always, narrates with precision and her talent shines through. Though the story was well-paced, I was lost in the end. I listened three times and still don’t know whodunnit.

Could have been good but wasn't
Narration was so utterly boring but matched my feelingsI. Seemed like a good idea and the start was promising but that really did not last for long. Honestly, I tried to keep going but found myself skipping chapters yet still able to follow the story. Just not my cuppa tea - although the reviews I take note of were encouraging so someone out there must have enjoyed it! The choice is yours.

Awful
Weak female characters. A plot that was so improbable it was laughable in places. Sentences felt padded out just to get a decent word count. I wasted a credit on this, I advise you don't. Really very poor.

One of her best!
Throughly enjoyed this book, one of her best, I binged it over two days. No part of it dragged for me, which I find is often the case these days, it was an easy listen, which I think is a real mark of a talented author. I enjoyed the setting, the premise and the interaction between the women and the dynamics of the three couples involved. Outstanding narration from the incredibly talented Tamsin Kennard as always. Loved it ❤️

Great book with a few annoying niggles.
Largely I really enjoyed this book. The plot was great. In the last few chapters it’s twist after twist and I wasn’t expecting the final twist at the end. The narrator was brilliant too. There were a few really irritating nibbles for me though that could have easily spoilt it. Firstly all of the male characters are pretty awful. It was really unbalanced and unhelpful. I realise that that helps the plot but surely there could have been at least one male character that was a genuinely nice man. Secondly. I think the narrator has been living in a cupboard. Two of the 3 female leads are 38 and have left it far too late to have children. What?? For goodness sake. Half the kids I know have mothers that age and older. I was 40 when I had my youngest and my Mum had me when she was 40 in the 1960’s. What on earth is she talking about. Lastly. I live in Devon. Not far from where the police station in the story and close to where the action is set. The sweltering unbearable heat in this story baffles me too. It’s been 30 degrees here today and yet with no air conditioning we all manage fine. This part of Devon is known for having a microclimate that makes it feel cooler than the rest of the South West. It really felt as if it should have been set in another country. They’re just niggles but all 2 of these really jarred and with such a great story that was a shame. I’d definitely recommend it though despite that.

Not for me - sorry
Too unbelievable, too depressing, too exaggerated. Other people seem to have enjoyed it though. Certainly wouldn’t attempt any more from this author.

Good entertainment
This is a difficult one to review. I enjoyed it but found some aspects to be frustrating and far fetched. Three couples at a luxury holiday resort, previously unknown to each other and a murder occurs. Great premise. The three women all seemed to be strong, forthright and no nonsense but were very weak in their relationships with their husbands, I found this quite unreal. While their husbands were fairly awful and hurled horrible insults, disappeared for hours on end and were cagey they bit their lip and took it. I found myself telling them to at least stand up for themselves and fight back. Enjoyable and well worth listening to though just the details left me a bit distracted.

Not really a thriller
This book was more about some soppy wife’s who have issues with their arrogant egotistical husbands. Easy to listen too but definitely not a -sitting-at-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller. Very very average.

Twists to the End
This was an engaging thriller from the very first page. Twists and turns so you never knew what really happened until the end.
The narrator was very pleasant to listen to.
