Publisher's summary

“As much as I felt bad for this Elisha person - God, my heart was breaking for the young man and all he'd been through - I was also angry. I'd left that pack in my rearview 10 years ago for a good reason.”

Matthias Longclaw is happy living his life on the back of his beloved Harley with his five best friends and brothers-in-arms at his side. The West Coast Wolves are a rare pack of alphas, made up of unwanted orphans and second-born sons. The packs they were born to may not have wanted them, but they’ve built a solid family of their own. They help where they can, doing random acts of kindness and expecting nothing in return, just helping to build a world they want to live in.

Then Matt gets a call from an old childhood buddy. He’s being called back - begged to return - to reclaim his birthright and save a life in the process. The problem is...to do it, he will have to take a mate. And if he refuses? The omega will die.

Torn between his duty to help others and his resentment of his old pack, Matt never expects for Elisha Whitetail to tilt his world and change everything. Can Matt and Elisha rebuild a broken pack while tending to a new love and a growing family while dealing with outside threats from neighboring packs

They’re wolves. Strong, proud, and willing to do what it takes when their community needs them...whatever it takes.

This is the first in a new mpreg series about finding joy in a hard world, building family, and discovering that life can surprise a person when they least expect it. Although this world has harsher themes than my previous books, it still has the same heart you’d expect. Plus a dose of my irreverent humor and all the naughty, knotty heat that comes with true mates. It wouldn’t be a Susi Hawke book without it. Be sure to listen to the author's note at the beginning for possible trigger warnings.

The Reluctant Alpha is all in

This is the first in a new series and as soon as it was finished I was immediately searching for information on book 2! The typical wolf pack has only one Alpha in the pack so I loved that West Coast Wolves was a pack of all Alphas. This nomadic band of brothers enjoyed a freedom of getting on their motorcycles and going. When Matthias gets a call from his former home pack, his life changes instantly. One thing that makes this book so good is the secondary characters are just as interesting and entertaining as the main characters. The continual growth of the pack was another thing that I enjoyed. I loved the omegas each had their own unique gift and it left me wanting to know more.
The narrator did a fantastic job of drawing you into the story by making each character stand out while bringing the story to life. I anxiously await the next book in this series!

Enjoyed it in Audio too

I read this book some months ago. I reviewed it then as a a sweet and sappy story that you just need in your life. I still stand by that statement. Susi does a great job of setting up this new mpreg world. I loved falling into it and meeting both some special Alphas and some adorably special omegas. I can't wait to keep meeting more of the guys in this world. And Nick Russo does an amazing job portraying the story line. Hoping we see more of these stories soon!!

OMG! This was ridiculously good!

Susi Hawke is my chocolate candy! I love all kinds of chocolate candy and some better than others. So a Susi Hawke audiobook is a what kind of chocolate candy is this one? This was the absolute best kind! The milk chocolate-covered cherries! Yum! This series is incredible! Having a bit of a darker edge than most of her other work, the triumphs in West Coast Wolves are just that much sweeter. In 'The Reluctant Alpha', we encounter a group of alpha wolves that are pack-less for several different reasons. Matthias Longclaw leaves the pack ruled by his abusive father to form a motorcycle club with other displaced alpha wolves only to get called back in order to save an omega wolf bonded to the last pack leader. Matthias finds out that his father was killed by the uncle in a pack challenge shortly after he left ten years prior. His uncle is challenged more recently and loses, leaving behind an omega that will die if he remains unclaimed. It is the omega's own father who kills the uncle, leaving his poor son (Elisha Whitepaw) to die a painful death. Matthias steps in to claim Elisha and challenge his father in a scene that had me cheering like a madwoman! I can't wait to have more of this series! Wow!

So good!

I love how this isn't your average boy meets boy and they discover that they're mates. I do love those but this was refreshing, exciting and such an adventure. I love this series!! I will definitely be putting this on my listen again list!!

Corny and lazy

the writing started out well, but quickly became lazy.
we are told a lot- like the author was writing a movie and not a book. there are a lot describing how things look, and not a lot of actually taking us there and letting us experience what is happening.
and then there are all of the corny dialogue.
lost interest, but have a hangover so it actually almost met my level of brain dead.

sad as the story started out quite good.

I like this one even better

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Ms Hawke. The narrator was great. I believe I have all of her mPreg books and all of her narrators do a great job but Nick J Russo and Kurt Graves are my favorites so far.
This book is a great start to this new series. I wish the next book was on audio already because I have to wait until after work to read the ebook. I would have loved to listen to it at my desk. But c'est la vie. Such is life. I will buy the ebook for book2 for now.

Great listen and worth the credit.

disappointed.

just like a susi hawk book: no build to the romance but that's ok! there no need for it since the MCs are True Mates. normally I wouldn't be upset with that, but it feels like with every book she writes, the closer and closer the characters get to being Mary Sue's.

everything goes right for them, they tackle every problem perfectly, and there's no real conflict.

if you want a REALLY laid back plot, this is the one for you.

I've liked her other series, but this one feels......lazy.

I have no problem with Russo. his voice is beautiful, and his performance here was on par for his reputation.
