An occult assassin, a living god and an elderly queen face off in A Regicide Report, the thrilling conclusion to Charles Stross’ Hugo Award-winning Laundry Files series.

After 60-plus years in power in the UK, Queen Elizabeth II has gathered a surplus of mana from believers spread across the British Commonwealth. That makes her a threat to the Elder God recently installed as Prime Minister—and a target to a shadowy faction within the Laundry looking to depose the Black Pharaoh.

An assassin is dispatched to take out Queen Elizabeth and neutralize the threat of the Black Pharaoh. Bob Howard and Dominique "Mo" O'Brien return for the last time, reluctantly pressed into service protecting the queen.

Plus, Mhari Murphy and her team, many of whom are now infected with vampirism, are back from their mission to Washington, DC, with mixed success.

God save the Queen—someone has to.

I love seeing these middle aged civil servants, that I grew up with, kick ass and take names. More please.

Back at it again!

The narrator, Gideon Emery, makes the story worth twice the price of admission. This telling is Bob-centric and I love his sarcastic and witty takes on the impossible scenario of a dark overlord taking control of the government and the human sycophants that do his bidding. Pretty outrageous. Impossible to imagine. …unless you live in the US.

Always a fun read

I enjoyed the way this story rounded out Bob's career. And remember nothing lasts forever...

Enjoyed the story.

I've been counting the days until this one was released. It's more satisfying than a few of the past installments and wraps up a lot of loose ends that dangled from previous books. Maybe I missed how Bob and Mo got back together, but they are back as a pair, and it was enjoyable to see them working as a team. I think this one may be my favorite book in the series since The Nightmare Stacks. Mo and Bob are the main focus again here. There are many bizarre happenings, as in all of the Laundry books, I found some of the plot devices in recent books to be a little irritating, but didn't find any of that here. This time around, it involves the Queen and a character from 1970s B horror movies. Just a great story with lots of magic, read flawlessly by the skillful Gideon Emery.
