Publisher's summary
In her 39th best-selling novel, Danielle Steel brings to life the story of three women, old roommates from college, who come together after 20 years, one summer at The Ranch.
They had been inseparable in college, Mary Stuart, Tanya, and Zoe. But in the more than 20 years that followed, the three had moved on with their lives, settled in different cities, and found successful careers and new roles as mothers and wives. By chance, each would find herself alone for a few weeks one summer, wrestling with the present and the past. At a sprawling ranch in the foothills of Wyoming's Grand Teton Range, the three women come together and find courage, healing, and truth, and reach out to each other once again.
Despite the honesty they once shared, now pretense between them runs high. Mary Stuart Walker, married for 22 years to a Manhattan lawyer, kept herself busy with volunteer work, and now masks the loneliness that consumes her life. A year has passed, and Mary Stuart still hasn't gotten over the guilt, or the fear that her husband will never forgive her for their son's death....
Tanya Thomas, an award-winning singer and rock star, enjoys all the trappings of fame and success - a mansion in Bel Air, legions of fans, and a broken heart. All the Grammy awards in the world can't make up for the children she wanted but never had, the men who have taken advantage of her and just gone along for the ride, and still are....
Dr. Zoe Phillips has her hands full as a single mother to an adopted two-year-old, and as a doctor at an AIDS clinic in San Francisco. Predictably, as they all know, she is as liberal as she ever was, and marriage was never a dream she coveted or shared with them. Tending to her patients is a full-time job that leaves Zoe little time for herself - until unexpected news forces her to reevaluate both her future, and her current life.
But despite the changes in their lives, their friendship is still a bond they all treasure and share. For each of the women, a few weeks at the ranch will bring healing and release, as old hurts are buried, ancient secrets revealed, and love replaced or renewed.
In The Ranch, best-selling novelist Danielle Steel brings reality to the meaning of friendship, with dramas whose truths we all share.

Story
On Sarah Whitfield's 75 birthday, memories take her back to New York in the 1930s. To a marriage that ends after a year, leaving Sarah shattered. A trip to Europe with her parents does little to raise her spirits, until she meets William, Duke of Whitfield. In time, despite her qualms, William insists on giving up his distant right to the British throne to make Sarah his duchess and his wife. On their honeymoon, the newlyweds buy an old French château, but not long after, the war begins. William joins the allied forces, leaving Sarah; their first child, an infant; and their second child on the way, in France.

Story
India Taylor lived in a world of manicured lawns and neatly maintained calendars: a merry-go-round of Little League, piano lessons, and Cape Cod summer vacations. With four wonderful children, India believed in commitment and sacrifice, just as she believed in Doug, the man she married 17 years before. For India, this was the promise she made, the life she had chosen - not the award-winning career as a photojournalist she once had. It was a choice she had never truly regretted. Until she begins to regret it with all her heart.

Great Book, Narrator should have put more emotion into it
This narrator was ok. I’ve heard better. He wasn’t so much monotone as almost bored. That takes away from the story itself.

A riveting novel complete with pain, love and forgiveness.
This is such an amazing novel! It’s how I got my start with Danielle Steel. I own this in paperback also. As I read the book and then finished with the audible I kept slowing down because I didn’t want it to end! You become absorbed with the characters, almost knowing them; feeling their emotions… their pain. Feeling points of happiness! You can easily visualize this. The storyline is amazing and it does capture the reader! The narration is amazing! Mr. Ron McLarty! He reads in a man’s voice but somehow you are easily able to discern if a male or female character is speaking! Without changing his voice! Amazing. I am man. And I love everything Danielle Steel writes. You become immersed in the stories… Never wanting them to end!

The Ranch
I am having a difficult time writing a review as it just does not hold my interest about what this one does and that one did not. The Narration is all right, but not the best with feeling. I have to say that I have not finished this one and I do not like trying to make it sound as I have. Just could not stick with it. I have read so many of Danielle Steel books and mostly I pick them from the reviews and the Narrator.
I gave it medium ratings for as far as I have listened.
Read other ratings and follow your instincts. I could be way off as it is just the beginning of the new year, 2023.

Not Good for me
Really didn't like most of the story. There was too much sex (although it was fairly decent). The book started out interesting, but didn't hold my attention.
