Publisher's summary

Post-Apocalyptic Fiction by Sean Liscom

Jason Sterling had a simple life by all accounts. He had worked the same job his entire adult life, he had never married and he had no children. He was used to doing things on his own. His comfortable life was shaken to the core the day he learned of his fathers death. It was a mysterious meeting that set life altering events in motion and the allure of a new life was too great to walk away from. When an Electromagnetic Pulse brings the modern world to its knees, Jason's choice proves to be the right one.

Excerpt:

“I’d tell you boy’s good luck but you’re going to need a whole lot more than that. Divine intervention maybe. Stack your magazines deep, keep your powder dry and be ready to fight the devil himself,” It abruptly ended there. “What the hell?” I said looking up at my brother. That's what my father wrote in his journal. It was ominous, sinister, menacing.... All the words that raced through my mind when I read it. No matter which word I chose to use, they all meant the same thing. Something bad was on the horizon.

Not as good as the first

Got a little ridiculous on stuff that was happening and could have done without the lesbian crap and pushing that agenda. But overall not a bad book

The tangled web might have just gotten too tangled for me. I’m finished. I am not putting anymore money in this series.

a little too much prepper fantasy

Warehouse supervisor all of a sudden knows more about ranching than ranchers, soldier-ing than soldiers, prepping than preppers...I struggled with that absurdity. Then...this warehouse guy and a 20 something girl armed with pistols fend off a coordinated ambush from 10 trained soldiers toting assault rifles and ordinance. Of course they fire 8 rounds and kill 8 targets. The book is littered with this ridiculousness. unfortunate too...take out the all knowing, flawless, God like main character (who was a warehouse supervisor) and it would have been a great story.

another great job!

Once again Mr. Liscom does not disappoint. As in the first book he grabs you holds you tight and doesnt let go. Even at the end of the book he leaves you wanting more! Great writing, Mr. Lane does a great job telling the story that Sean has told. I can not recommend this series enough. Only down side is that book three is not out in audio book form yet.

A solid 2nd book

Ending aside, this wasn't bad. However, this is NOT the first book. This one came with excitement and cliff hangers but had some weak moments. Overall the characters are well written and come out of the page to the listener.
The good:
Like the first, this is a refreshing view of a post-apocalyptic world that our characters live in. They care for each other and have put a great post-collapse life together.
The not so good
Many plots turns that leave you wondering what will happen but make you wonder, why are we taking this path? The exchange between Melissa and Don left SO much to be desired. The whole Melissa sidebar is sort of strange, especially since the Jason knows the people at the ranch so well. He missed this? The unreasonable interaction at the King Hotel was narrow in it's delivery.
The awful
The town of "Blissfield" wasn't really fitting, while they attempted to explain it, an oasis-like this would be 1) known far and wide or 2) overrun and subject to the evil laws. It just doesn't sit well.
The narration leaves a lot to be desired. This takes place in the Southwest, but everyone has a Southern accent, but not Southwest. The pitch when delivering men vs women characters doesn't play well. There is almost a drone in the performer's voice that is hard to take at times and the voice he gives Braydon is terrible.

Overall this isn't a bad series. This book seems to have so far fetched moments. I am looking forward to book 3, hopefully it's better than this one was.
